On February 13, 2017, Abigail “Abby” Williams and Liberty “Libby” German were reported missing after hiking near Delphi Historic Trails. The teens were discovered a day later along a railroad bridge near Deer Creek. No arrests have occurred at this moment.

Police released a photo of a man who they suspect may be involved in the double homicide as well as an audio clip recorded on German’s phone. The alleged attacker says “down the hill” on the recording and police hope that someone recognizes the voice. Police are calling German a hero for having the presence of mind to record the incident.

Indiana State Police Superintendent Douglas Carter recently attended a press conference relating to this case. “Someone knows who this individual is,” Carter stated. “Is it a family member? Is it a neighbor? Is it an acquaintance? Is it an associate?” Carter goes on to describe the photo in hopes that someone recognizes distinct features of the man. Carter adds, “You see, even with technology we need human intelligence. In other words, we need you.”

I asked a few people around the school about their perspective on the tragedy. Miss Smith, a teacher here at Lewis Cass, stated, “Unfortunately, I have seen more and more terror and tragedies happening in our small rural towns.” Smith gave the examples of the loss of Officer Carl Koontz this past year as well as the recent passing of a young man named Carson Nuss in Russiaville. “It seems as though these incidents used to only exist on TV or in the movies, but it is becoming too familiar to our community,” Smith added.

If you or someone you know has info about the case, police encourage you to come forward with any tips. Police make sure that the tipper remains anonymous. Phone numbers where tips may be left are located below.

This a great article but it is so sad to see this happen. Expecially so close. I hope they find the person, or persons who commited this awful act.

I cannot imagine what those girls had went through. They and their families need to have justice for themselves. I don’t know how a person or multiple people can be cruel enough to commit such an act to young girls. This is why now-a-days, I am scared to even let me little sister walk around the store by herself without me. So many things are on Facebook about girls and young kids being taken for sex trafficking and who knows what else. The world isn’t what’s actually scary. It’s the people that are living in it thats the scariest.
