When most people think of spring break, they think of college kids getting crazy on the beach, but drugs, booze, and boys were not part of our fun. This spring break was in the name itself, a break. With college, my future, and life right around the corner, I needed a break. This trip has been unforgettable. I didn’t just leave with a tan line and a face full of freckles. I left with memories and friendships that will last a lifetime. This spring break was everything I wanted and more. This spring break was for the girls.
After near 17 hours of driving, Shannon, Jael, Maci, and I arrived in Treasure Island where we stayed for our first night. The next day we moved down the road to the Commodore Beach Club in Madeira Beach. We stayed just minutes away from Saint Johns Pass where we visited nightly to get our daily dose of ice cream. A couple days in, after spending a few days soaking up the sun, we went on our first big adventure. We took a dolphin cruise out to Egmont Key to snorkel and tour the beautiful island.
First things first, I am terrified of the ocean. Although the water was only six feet deep, keep this in mind while I tell my first experience snorkeling. I was the first one in, conquering my fears. Maci Good jumped in after and helped me while I flopped around in the water like a maniac. If I have ever had anxiety, it was in this moment. After doggy paddling for a few minutes, we swam to touching territory where I was informed to shuffle my feet in the sand. Why shuffle my feet one may ask; a woman informed me that just one year before someone was stung by a stingray. This did not help my fear. I did not find much because of my caution in the sand. I left disappointed until our Captain pulled up a sand dollar with the anchor and gave it to me. I arrived to the island a happy girl.
This beauty of the island was its true isolation. The trees were vibrant. The bird sanctuaries were peaceful. The water was so clear we could see our toes. I left speechless. I didn’t want to leave such a breathtaking place. Our adventure to the Island was the best but not our last.
Jael, Maci, and I took a trip down to St Pete, where our JV coach, Nicole Taco, had been staying. We took a cruise on a banana boat. The year before was my first ride. After hanging on for dear life while my bottoms were almost pulled off by the ocean, I was skeptical about a ride two. This time I left with a blood blister and a smile on my face. Nicole falling off may have had something to do with this.
After a week of funny moments, our last full day began to approach. We had to do something unforgettable. We received a boarding license and took a Jet Ski out for a spin. Jael led us out there cautiously. Maci then took over and almost killed us. She flipped the jet ski, throwing all three of us into the shark infested waters. Okay, I may be exaggerating, but the ocean is no joke. After having our fun, we were informed of a group of dolphins swimming by other jet skis. We took a stop and admired the delicate creatures. While making our way back to the port we witnessed Brady Hammond and Abrah Humerickhouse get thrown off of a jet ski which was quite a sight to see. We had a laugh. We had a laugh most of the trip actually.

I’m glad you got a chance to get away from all the stress of school and college prep. I too had to take a relaxing vacation away from everything just to make it through this last stretch of school. You did a great job here of capturing all the fun and laughs you had. Great article!

I am so glad you three got to go to the ocean and relieve some of the stress of college and everything. The fact that you got to go snorkeling is awesome! I too am terrified of the ocean because of sharks. We went out on jet skis one time and although it was a lot of fun, I was scared of sharks the entire time! I liked how you used a lot of descriptions and pathos. Great article!
