Starting the Wednesday of our fall break, the Lewis Cass Marching Kings began preparing for the upcoming 24-hour day on Saturday. The Band had band camp for the next three days to perfect parts of the show so we would be ready for Saturday. The three days went by much faster than expected and everybody seemed to be prepared for the next day. Call time was 3:00 a.m., so the members of the Marching Kings had to get all the rest they could the night before. The 24-hour day finally arrived and the Marching Kings seemed determined to take the day with force when arriving to the school, and the organization set out to win its first BOA (Bands of America) Regional Championship.

The Marching Kings set off for Lucas Oil and began their upcoming day. When arriving, the members seemed not to be intimidated by the building but encouraged. The Band got off the bus and put on the new uniforms for the first time at a competition, and we set off to take over the stadium every member in the organization calls home. Going into warm ups, all members had to keep reminding themselves on how it was not early. Each member kept the mental intensity required for Lucas Oil Stadium at 7:15 a.m. The Marching Kings had their performance and went through all the procedures for pictures and set off for Whiteland. The Band made it to the Greenwood Mall to hang out for a couple of hours before heading to Whiteland. When making it to Whiteland, the Band had three hours to rest and take time to relax before performing for the second time in one day.

In this period of time at Whiteland, my fellow drum major Lilli Shaffer and I stayed at Lucas Oil to get the results of our performance earlier that day and to find out if we would be performing in the finals for BOA that night. It felt amazing to salute for every single caption and to take the title as the BOA Class A Regional Champion. We rushed over to Whiteland after giving the news and caught the band beginning music warm-up. The band was so pumped and ready to go out and have an awesome performance and that is exactly what we did. The Band won the competition at Whiteland and set of to perform as a Champion Band in the Finals at BOA.

Even though everybody had reached the hardest part of the day, the entire organization was ready to give one last performance of the day. The crowd was of the thousands at this point of day at Lucas Oil, but the members of the Lewis Cass Marching Kings know how to deal under pressure in their territory of Lucas Oil. We finished our exhibition performance and went through the awards process. It was an honor to be recognized with some of the best bands in the United States.

The Lewis Cass Marching Kings continue to push to the end of the season. With this new title and two wins on our shoulders, the target for the Class C State Champion Title gets closer and closer, and the target on the back of this great organization grows as our titles grow. This week will be the Semi-State Competition and the Kings will see everybody in Class C competing for the state title. After pushing through the previous 24 hour day we have had and accomplishing all that we did, the members of the band will prevail in our future endeavors.

Great story Luke! The whole band really knows what hard work is! It sounds amazing being able to perform at Lucas Oil for one of the biggest band competitions in America and performing at another competition all in the same day. That really does that commitment and passion for the sport. Great job Marching Kings!
