I have let Kate’s life become part of my life when I first heard her dramatic and tragic story.  Kate Fitzgerald’s life has always been revolved around her. Her mother and father always watching her every move, trying to keep her safe from any harm, and also keeping her away from her annoying older brother Jessie. Since she is the “favorite” child in the family, it has some downsides. Kate was diagnosed with promyelocytic leukemia that has taken a toll on her whole body. From having blood infusions by random people to getting a drug struck inside her arm that makes her feel as if  she’s dying just to kill off some of the bacteria harming her, Kate was in and out of hospitals just to keep her life going.

With her health being the main agenda for the family, Brain and Sara Fitzgerald, Kate’s parents, received terrible news one day in one of the many hospital trips. Kate needed an organ to keep fighting off her disease, but unfortunately, she had no match from her brother or her parents to receive the organ. She was put on a wait list until her mom had an idea. They were going to make the perfect baby for Kate’s sake and this made me feel very happy for both Kate and her family.

I witnessed Anna being born three years later Anna was born. Anna was never the sick child but what she goes through for her sister, she might as well be. From all the blood infusions and marrow implants, Anna has always been a guinea pig for her sister’s health and became just like her sister. She had to go through the same treatments just like her sister and at the age of thirteen, she had enough of the nonsense and I knew I would not have put up with this as long as she did.

“My parents sat me down and told me all the usual stuff,  of course- but they also explained that they chose little embryonic me, specifically.” With Anna saying this quote, she went for a “run” to the courthouse to do what she should’ve done when she could finally walk and talk: get an attorney and sue her parents for forcing her to give her body away that could risk her own life. Ever since she persuaded Campbell Alexander, an attorney with a service dog that may or may not need it and a terrible childhood, the Fitzgerald’s life turned upside down.

Will she get by with the suing and teach her parents a lesson? Will she give it all up just to help her beloved sister? Does she finally have to say her final goodbye to Kate? Open up My Sister’s Keeper by Jodi Picoult to find out the life changing decision!

This actually sounds like a great book. I’ve heard of this book but I’ve never given the time to actually look into it. Just reading this small article about it sounds horrifying. I’ll definitely look into the book! Great job!
