When I was young, I had always dreamed about playing Division 1 baseball. I started playing at a very young age with my dad, and I have loved it ever since. This summer everything I have ever dreamed about and worked for finally came true. I was going back to my hotel from a travel ball game in Cincinnati when I received an email from Coach Waz.

When I first received this email, I was shocked. I got butterflies in my stomach and my body got really hot. As we were driving back, I started yelling in the car and my mom was worried something wrong had happened. She asked what happened and I told her that I had gotten an email from Coach Waz. I then read the email and it said, “Reece, I like you a lot. I want you here at Purdue so let’s make it happen.” At first I thought it was all a dream. I am just a kid from a small town. I had always dreamed about getting an offer but never expected it to actually happen.

After getting that email, I then responded and we set up a visit on June 17th. When we were set up my visit, I was still in disbelief. I actually never really comprehended it was real until we were sitting in his office and he offered me to play baseball at his school. When we first arrived at Purdue, Coach Waz met us at the baseball stadium in a golf cart. There we had a little conversation and then got in his golf cart and that’s when my amazing day started. We first went to the athletic recovery and medicine building. This building was brand new, when you walk in, athletes have to sign in with their Purdue card and then proceed to the athletic branch they are in.  Each athletic team has its own branch of this building, and when we got to the baseball branch, I was shocked. I had never seen so many helpful things specifically for baseball. While my family and I were in this building, we met the two people from the recovery baseball staff: the strength coach and the recovery guy.

After we left this building, we went and explored all of the four weight rooms on campus. We first went to the rec center and walked around, but then we went to the to the athletic team’s weight rooms. The football and baseball teams have their own separate weight rooms and then the basketball team shares theirs with the track team. The baseball weight room is all brand new and filled with a lot of technology. I never thought I would see technology in a weight room but I was wrong. We then went to the football weight room and Coach Waz introduced me to Coach Brohm, the head football coach, and then he introduced me to the 2018 football recruiting class. I got to talk to them for about 15 minutes while my mom and dad got to talk to all of the Purdue football coaching staff and Coach Waz.

After that we went back to the baseball field and that was the end of our visit. I then received my offer and I wanted to commit then and there but my parents wanted to talk about it first. The next day I called Coach Waz and I knew Purdue was the place for me so I committed. In conclusion I am very excited I went on this visit and  my parents provided this opportunity for me.
