Almost everyone I know was getting a summer job. A few people worked at Kokomo Beach, and some worked at B&K Rootbeer stand. I decided to try my own luck with a job that seemed fun. I saw an ad for open interviews for the Kokomo Jackrabbits and I decided to go. I submitted an application and talked to the managers. We went over the schedule, game procedures, and theme nights for each game. My favorite theme was Jax Jackson (Michael Jackson theme) because a ton of people dressed up. On the contrary, I learned to like many of the other themes because they brought in more people. Anyway, the summer had a lot of ups and downs, but overall it was one to remember

Our entire team had a preseason party to go over the safety procedures, and most importantly taste the new foods. We had food items such as stuffed nachos, pork bites, and pork chop on a stick. None of these were at my stand, however. Later, we were told the standard procedures of the stadium if an emergency occurs. A missing child, a fire, a thunderstorm, a tornado, and an active shooter are just a few of the situations we had to be prepared for. The procedures for thunderstorms came in handy because it rained a lot during the season and we canceled a few games.

Early in the season, we had a game where it rained for two hours straight and we had almost no sales. At the stand near home plate, we sell the basic stuff you’d get at a baseball game. Hot dogs, cheeseburgers, and cheese curds are our most popular by far. Popular food brings big games and even bigger crowds. The biggest game of the year had around 3000 people show up. The lines were so long that no one could get to the other side of the stadium. Both stands were like that all night, and we didn’t have a lot of time to prepare. The stand manager was nice enough to bring us cupcakes and pizza because it was her birthday. This made everyone a little happier and made the night go much faster.

At 9:45, we had our last customer of the night. The manager told us we could close the window and start to clean up. I mopped the floor and shined the counters. After that, I took out the trash and clocked out. I had the next few days off, and it turned out that the busiest night of the year was my last day.

I had a lot of fun at the Kokomo Municipal Stadium this summer. I made a bunch of new friends and had a great time. Applying for a summer job was definitely worth not always being able to stay home and be lazy. I learned the value of a dollar and how to work a full-time job. Next summer, the Jackrabbits are moving up a league which means we’ll have harder competition. I can’t wait to see what the next season brings to the table.

It sounds like you had a great experience this summer. I like how you described how your favorite theme night was the Michael Jackson night. This definitely sounds like the place to be. Great article!
