“Success in golf depends less on strength of the body and more upon strength of the mind and character,” claims Arnold Palmer, the hall of fame legend. As a golfer I couldn’t agree more with these wise words. If you decide to go play a round of golf, go on a warm sunny day with good thoughts and a golf cart load of patience. I can promise that when you leave you will have about half the patience you showed up with, and many memories you will cherish forever. At least that is what the Lewis Cass girls golf team tries to do. With every swing of a club, another memory is added to the past.

Coach Charlie Jones has been teaching girls to enjoy the game of golf since 2003. Coach Jones has experienced high and lows with all of his teams as he claims, “This year will be a rebuilding year.” Coach Jones states, “We are a relatively young, and inexperienced team.” As the season goes on our team is getting better in every aspect of the game. Coach Jones took on an extra learning experience this year, and added Coach Quick to our happy group of golfers. I guess Coach Jones needed an extra set of hands to keep the team together.

As the coaching staff continues to grow so does the bond between the team. Watching the team transform over the last four years is heartwarming. Recently, it hit me this is my last season playing with this team. This season has started off great, and I have learned so much about the sweet girls that make up this amazing team. We might be a handful at times, but we have fun every practice. Yes, even when it’s pouring down rain or 98 degrees outside, we have fun. Our team consists of seven girls that have passion and drive.

As Kassidy Henry, freshman, states, “I enjoy when Coach Jones makes us play in the rain; that way nobody can watch me cry at that awful putt I just hit.” If this single statement does not prove that we lack the mental half of the game, I guess you would just have to come and endure a day with the Lewis Cass Girls Golf team.

With all the fun times at golf, the team can still hold it together and be serious (for a short period of time). Being the only senior, I try to help and mentor the girls. I am very very proud of the team. I have watched these girls grow so much over the last four weeks. They are willing to learn and do their best. I want each, and every girl to know that I am proud of them, and I cannot thank them enough for such a great senior year so far. I cannot wait for more memories with each and every one of you. Thank you to Andi, Kassidy, Abby, Jordan, Jordan, and  Lauren for a great final year!

If you are interested in showing up to an event, the team’s next match is September 5 at the Logansport Country Club. They face the Taylor Titans with a tee time of 4:30. So come on out to watch a round of golf and memorable moments shared on the golf course. Don’t FOREget to watch out though the next ball might head your way.

I like how you put the words in to perspective. I also like how you put the date, time, and location.
