The upcoming wrestling season will be what most people call a “down year.” The team most likely will not have a lot of wrestlers and we won’t be a very good dual meet team. However; we will have amazing individuals.

As a team we won’t fare so well in dual meets. Dual meets are when two teams wrestle all fourteen weight classes against each other and the final score determines the winner. This year we will be more of an individual team since not all weight classes will be filled. We will have more success in individual tournaments. These style matches are held mainly on Saturdays, and our team duals will be held throughout the week since they are much shorter in time.

We will have heavy hitters at the 113, 120, 132, 145, 152, 160, 170, and possibly the two heaviest weights 220 and 285. Sam Miller, CJ Burrous, Cade Cox, Blake Jones, James Fale, Cayl Garland, Bryce Reish, possibly Tony Florez, and I will lead the team into war this coming winter season. Last year the team did pretty bad by only sending six kids to the Regional contest at Peru, and only two of those six made it onto Semi-State in New Haven.

In my honest opinion we will send eight or more kids onto Regionals, four to Semi-State, and hopefully we will have two State qualifiers. I know Cade, James, and I have all put in some work in the offseason. Some other kids have been lifting weights but us three have been getting time in on the mat. I went to the Jeff Jordan State Champ Camp in St. Paris, Ohio. It was a very intense camp that lasted five days. For eight hours out of each day we were wrestling and the kids never left the mat. Cade attended the Wabash Wrestling Camp this summer as well as a few other kids from the team, the camp was hosted by the head coach of the Wabash wrestling team, Brian Anderson.

This hard work and dedication will carry into the season and the team will be much better than everyone thinks. Joining the wrestling team isn’t an easy task. Most people will not want to roll around on the mats for a few hours after school, be sweaty, and have to do it all over again the next day. A lot of kids like to eat whatever they want but wrestlers cannot do that. We have to maintain our weight every day so we are ready to wrestle whenever we have to. This is why the upcoming  wrestling season is going to be a good one.

“ I am excited for the upcoming year since we have a lot of potential if we work hard as a team I believe my senior year can be the best year we’ve had in a while” said Bryce Reish. Cade Cox also added, “ We have a lot of weights to fill after the loss of some solid seniors. We are looking for some younger guys to step up, make weight, and contribute to the team.”

Nice Article Alex! I like how you described the transition from last years team to this years upcoming squad. I think it was also interesting you added how a few of the wrestlers, including you were training over the summer. Great Job!

Great article Alex! I really enjoy hearing about all the other sports. I can understand how you feel; I understanding that losing seniors and not having guys can put the season down. I hope you and the guys the best. Have a great season.
