During spring break last year, I went to Panama City, Florida, with a group of my friends. All of us were a little nervous about taking on this trip by ourselves. We could’ve easily stayed on the beach, but we didn’t. We didn’t let this trip fail. We made every boring situation turn into the most exciting. We went on many different adventures. We went miniature golfing, jet skiing, and exploring around at Pier Park. We all enjoyed the time we spent together and the trip we had taken; however, we all had that one memory that we’d cherish forever: snorkeling.

We took a risk of going out into the middle of the ocean, and we conquered it. No one really understands the beauty of snorkeling until doing it in real life. Everyone has seen the adventure through images, videos, or even television but experiencing it was a whole different feeling. Maci, Sophie, Olivia, Lilli, and I all went on the snorkeling trip. The day started bright and early when our alarms went off at 8 a.m. Man, we were all so tired and were dreading waking up that early to go jump in freezing cold water. As we arrived at the boat dock, we were all getting that nervous but anxious feeling to get on the boat; however, we were beyond ready to take on this adventure together.

None of us knew what this trip would bring, but we were prepared. However, out of everything we expected, we never thought we would see Luke Bryan’s house in Panama. All of us were dumbfounded, and of course, we were taking multiple pictures to show family members back home. As we continued to drive along the ocean, everyone was looking around with such amazement in their eyes. We could see the beautiful water. We could see the beautiful boats that were going out for a morning stroll. We could see the beautiful, ordinary birds that sat along the water line. It seemed as if we were actresses playing our part in this unimaginable movie script similar to a story I read called “Miss Brill.”

Then, the time came when we looked out into the ocean and there they were: dolphins. I’ve seen dolphins from afar, but seeing them up close was indescribable; however, the fun had just begun. All of us grabbed our snorkels and jumped off at Shell Island to collect shells, of course, and many sand dollars. The feeling was incredible. The water hitting the shore was so peaceful and calm, but we had to get back on the boat because we couldn’t stay forever. Then all the sudden, our captain yelled at us to jump off the boat and look down. None of us knew the reason why until many dolphins were swimming right below our feet. The feeling was electric. Everyone has seen dolphins from afar, but when I looked down, I was scared but filled with so much amusement. A beautiful creature was in arm’s reach, and I was speechless. As we climbed back on the boat, we were very thankful for the opportunity of going on this wonderful adventure.

However, right before we started to head out and go back to the dock, our captain let us jump off in one more spot. It was right beside these beautiful line of rocks, which was an area that many fisherman used as their go-to spot. The scenery was beautiful. None of us knew what to think at the time, but I knew all of us were having the time of our lives.

The trip finally came to an end, but it never would end in the long run. Going snorkeling with my best friends was a memory that I have cherished ever since that day. Not everyday do you get to experience something like that, especially with your closest friends, but I did. If any of you guys reading this have never been on such a crazy, heart-racing adventure as I have, well  you definitely should! Not only does it give you amazing memories that you can look back on one day, but it gives you the opportunity to explore the world where you have never gone. Many people are so close-minded and don’t ever want to take adventures because they may be scary; however, no one should live their lives running from their fears. I mean I could’ve gotten attacked by a shark, but I didn’t. Every beautiful thing in life comes with its downfall or should I say the negative part, but if all someone ever does is run away from these things, they will never see the world the way I did. Step out of your comfort zone and go explore the world from a different point of view because, trust me, the adventure is worth it in the end.

This is an amazing article Ashli. You truly showed emotion and heart when you were describing the trip. The amount of detail about snorkeling was great, and nice allusion to “Miss Brill.” I am glad that you aren’t a normal Spring Breaker who sits on the beach for five days and complains about being burnt. Florida is a place full of adventures just waiting around the corner.
