The 2018 boys tennis state tournament draw was hosted by the IHSAA last night.

Sectional 55 was the draw the Kings eyes were glued to. It consisted of the host Logansport Berries with the pairings for Sectional play. The Kings had an outstanding draw, getting the bye until Thursday. The Kings play the Carroll Cougars in hopes to play in the Championship round on Friday. The bottom half of the bracket consists of the host Logansport Berries facing the Delphi Oracles in the first round of Sectional play tomorrow night. The winner of Logansport and Delphi match-up will face the Twin Lakes Indians Thursday night.

The Kings already swept Carroll in a thriller 5-0 this season. They’re ready to take the Championship back and advance to the Regional matchup in Kokomo on October 2nd and 3rd.

Positions for the Kings include senior Dixon Collins at No. 1 singles, senior Nate Jones at No. 2 Singles, and junior CJ Burrous at No. 3 singles. The doubles teams include senior Tanner Bowser and junior Brent Johnson at No. 1 doubles and senior Bailey Grisez and sophomore David Woolever at No. 2 doubles.

Senior Tanner Bowser said, “First round we received a good draw with Carroll. We 5-0’ed them this season so we all should advance. He went on to say, “Just one more hard week of practice before Carroll and then we should be set for our sectional.”

Head coach Matt Hurst said, “”Sectionals is what we work for all season. So everyone is always excited and there is a lot of energy among the guys. We need to play strong and expect every point to be a fight. Play hard and finish strong!”

Junior CJ Burrous was thrilled with the draw. He said, “We need everyone to play aggressive and we have a good chance to advance to regionals!

Dixon, this is a great article. It is very inspirational for future varsity tennis players to look forward too. State is a big deal and it would be great for you, Nate, and CJ to make it all the way to state. Good Luck!
