The Boston Red Sox won the 2018 World Series on Sunday. They beat the Los Angeles Dodgers five runs to one, clinching the series for the Red Sox. The Red Sox, otherwise known as the Sox, won the series four games to one as it was a best of seven series.

The Red Sox had the best record in the American League and the rest of the league during the regular season. With the absurd amount of wins they clinched their division, the AL East, edging out the Yankees, Rays, Blue Jays, and Orioles.  They ended up winning 108 games while only losing 54. This is an impressive feat as only two other teams won more than 100 games. Only 16 teams won more than 100 games from 2000 to 2016. Of those 16 teams, nine of them did not advance past the divisional series. The Red Sox came very close to breaking the record for most wins in a season with the record being 116 games. In 2001 the Seattle Mariners tied that record but failed to make it to the World Series as they lost to the Yankees in the ALCS.

In the first round of the playoffs, the Red Sox faced the New York Yankees. The Division Series is a best of five, unlike the Championship Series and the World Series. Boston beat the Yankees convincingly 3 games to 1 with a total score of the series of 27-14. This series also had one of the most memorable moments from the Green Monster. The Green Monster is the 37.2 feet tall wall in the outfield of the Red Sox’s Stadium. Giancarlo Stanton, a Yankees player, hit a home run in Game 2 of the series. He smashed it over the Green Monster and this angered a certain Red Sox fan. The fan picked the ball up and threw it back at Stanton. Some people may think this isn’t an easy feat, well it isn’t. Not only did the fan hit Stanton as he was rounding the bases, the fan hit him with the ball only bouncing once.

With the win over the stacked Yankees, the Red Sox moved on to the ALCS, or the American League Championship Series. This series was a best of seven series with the Red Sox dominating the Houston Astros four games to one. The Red Sox were on a hot streak at this point. The Houston Astros were the reigning World Series Champions but did not look like the team they were last year. In 2017 the Astros were running around the American League like it was a children’s playground. They won 101 games but still did not clinch the best record in the league, that went to the Dodgers with their 104 wins. The Astros rolled through the Red Sox in the ALDS. Then took the Yankees to game seven and barely made it to the World Series. They met the Dodgers in the World Series and also took them to game seven and edged them out in the final game 5-1. The 2017 World Series was a back and forth series. The Dodgers won the first, fourth, and sixth game while the Astros won games two, three, five, and seven. The Red Sox were rampaging through the whole American League like a bull in a china shop. The Sox looked determined to hold the best record in the regular season and win the World Series. This had only been accomplished by twelve other teams.

As the Red Sox entered the World Series, the world thought this would be one of the greatest series to ever grace the game of baseball; on the other hand, the Red Sox had other plans. The Sox came into game one and won 8-4, then steamrolled on to win the next game 4-2, but the Dodgers knew they had to stand their ground at home or they would get swept. The Dodgers ended up holding the red hot Red Sox to only two runs and won 3-2 in the eighteenth inning, that Game 3 was the longest World Series game to ever happen. The previous record was fourteen innings which was set in 2015, but that game tied the games from 1916 and 2005.  This loss angered the Red Sox and they won game four 9-6. At this point in the series the Red Sox are winning 3 games to 1 and only need one more win to secure their ninth World Series title. As the game entered the sixth inning the Sox only lead 2-1, but the dug deep and added on a run in the sixth, seventh, and eighth inning. The final score of the game was 5-1 and the Red Sox became the thirteenth team to hold the best record and win the World Series.

This article was very well written and thought out. I very good thing was that you included the scores to all the games in the World Series. Another good thing was that you mentioned the particular act that happened with the Green Monster. Very good essay!

Great Article, I like how you included how the Red Sox have done every round. It is surprising how the Red Sox dominated every team they faced, including the Yankees. I wonder how they are going to do next year.

I really enjoyed your detailed article about the Red Sox. I think it is cool that you talked about the World Series for people who didn’t watch it and wanted to know more about the series. Great article!

This definitely was a short, but great World Series to experience as you said. I like how you explained how the Red Sox overcame the Dodgers to claim the title. Great article!

Great story Alex. I really liked reading this story because I’m a big baseball fan. I am very happy that the Red Sox’s won because I hate the Dodgers. Keep up the great work.
