With snowfall averaging about seven inches across Indiana, the snowfall created multiple wrecks and closed roads throughout the weekend. In the 2019 Old Farmer’s Almanac, the 2019 weather forecast was stated that the week of January 7-10 was just mild flurries. With this prediction, the farmers were right. In Peru, there were multiple wrecks on Saturday, January 12, due to the snowfall and roads not being fully clear. The snowfall was getting thicker and thicker as the Saturday went on and the total amount of wrecks as well. It was stated by the Peru Scanner on Facebook that over 21 calls were reported of vehicles needed to be towed out of ditches, yards, and other areas around the slick snow. The snow may be hard to travel on, but in most cases, other people in Indiana just do not know how to drive in snow properly. It was also stated that I-70 was closed on Saturday due to multiple crashes and a major crash with a semi according to INDOT. I traveled into Peru during the time of the snowfall with my mom to get groceries and we were one of the smarter ones on the road.

“People just don’t know when it is the right time to use their breaks,” said my mom Angel. “With snowfall like this, people just need to go slower and take their time getting from place to place.”

As tough as it was with last week’s snowfall, another one is creeping on us quicker than we think. From another prediction by the Farmer’s Almanac, the week of January 11-24 will be full of rainy and snowy periods with very cold weather. According to Indy Star, the National Weather Service stated that with our 7.2 inches of snowfall throughout Indiana, there will also be more freezing rain and more snow on Thursday, January 17, as well as temperature dropping to the lows of 11 to -3 degrees through the weekend. This snowfall coming will spread throughout the weekend and some of the following week as well, creating predictions of the same amount.

“People just have to be smart on the roads at all times,” said my dad Dave. “With the prison being right by State Road 31, we see a lot of crashes just of people sliding into one another so everyone just needs to be safe.”

With these statements and alerts across Indiana, everyone needs to stay safe, stay off the roads if possible, and stay warm. Enjoy our winter wonderland, Indiana!

This article was very unique. You did a great job on giving facts about the weather, quotes from your mom and dad, and also having a fun twist at the end. With the weather, everyone tries to act as if their a nascar driver, but sometimes it’s better to slow down and enjoy the ride. I hope you stay safe this weekend, and have fun in the snow!:) Great article, Megs!!

This is really true. My mom lived in Michigan, and she loves the snow. She also know very well how to drive in the snow, and we were drive to Peru as well and she was very upset with how many people that couldn’t drive.
