After a long season, the NCAA basketball tournament is approaching with selection Sunday being this Sunday, March 17th.

With many teams who locked in their spot for the tournament by winning their conference, they wait to see who the NCAA committee matches them up with.

The teams who won their conference are:

(Team) (Record) (Conference)

Liberty (28-6)- Atlantic Sun

Gardner- Webb (23-11)- Big South

Northeastern (23-10)- Colonial

N. Kentucky (26-8)- Horizon League

Iona (17-15)- MAAC

Bradley (20-14)- Missouri Valley

F. Dickinson (20-13)- Northeast

Murray St. (27-4)- Ohio Valley

Colgate (24-10)- Patriot

Wofford (29-4)- Southern

N. Dakota St. (18-15)- Summit

St. Mary’s (22-11)- West Coast

Vermont (27-6)- AEC

NC Central (18-15)- MEAC

Iowa St. (23-11)- Big 12

Utah St. (28-6)- Midwest

Prairie View A&M (22-12)- SWAC

Villanova (25-9)- Big East

Buffalo (31-3)- MAC

Montana (26-8)- Big Sky

Each year a “sleeper team” comes out of the woodwork and shocks the nation getting to the elite eight or the final four. For example, last season a Loyola-Chicago team which was ranked 11th in the southern division defeated #6 Miami, #3 Tennessee and #7 Nevada to reach the Final Four to face #9 Kansas State.

This season I look for Prairie View A&M to shock to world because they are very talented with an astonishing record of 22-12 on the season. They only have three seniors this season, making them very young, but skilled. The seniors include 6’2” Gary Blackston, 6’1” Dennis Jones, and 6’7” Iwin Ellis.

ESPN’s Joe Lunardi has projected the #1 seeds in the NCAA tournament to be Virginia, Duke, North Carolina, and Gonzaga. Lunardi has the #2 seeds as Michigan State, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Michigan. He also has Temple, St. John’s, NC State, and TCU as the last 4 in. He has Belmont, Texas, Indiana, and Oregon as the first 4 out (which basically means they have little to no shot at getting in). All we can do now is wait for the NCAA committee to choose who they feel are the best of the best in the country to fill in the 2019 March Madness bracket.

For sports fans, March Madness is Christmas. Many ranked and unranked teams help make this sport and tournament unreal by having many experiences never dreamed of. After filling out the bracket, everyone is determined they have the perfect million dollar bracket, but not one person has ever gotten a perfect bracket. Could this year be a first for you?
