Marching Kings Reign at Ben Davis

The Lewis Cass Marching Kings competed at their third competition of the season two Saturdays ago at Ben Davis for the Ben Davis Invitational. The band ran through chunks of the show and did a few full runs during practice before the competition. We practiced the show, loaded up the trailers, got reminded how to put up our uniforms, and went to Ben Davis High School.

The band has been practicing a lot because we started adding our final movement of the show. We didn’t get that far into the third and final movement since we only went on eight charts and played the ending to the movement. We practiced part three all week long to clean the charts and music and to make it look like we didn’t just add it. We’ve received a lot of great feedback from the judges the past two competitions and took what they said and improved what we lacked during the performance.

We’re excited to improve even more at Ben Davis because we’ve improved a lot over the past two competitions musically and visually. With part of the final movement added, we couldn’t wait to see what the judges had to say to see what we can improve on and how to make it better. We had some other bands that are really good that we had to compete against. Some of them could be at state finals so we had to show them that we are here to win.

The band had a really successful day at Ben Davis. We swept all the caption awards and got Best Music, Best Visual, Best Effect, and Best Color Guard. We also placed first out of the five bands in Class D at the invitational. It was definitely our best run at a competition this season from what all of the band parents and students were saying.

This competition really helped us get encouraged to keep pushing not just for the next competition, but for the rest of the season. We need to keep pushing every single week so we can put out the best version of the show that we can. What we need to do is continue to push forward and not settle for what we have. We gained seven points from our last competition and that’s really encouraging for us to make this show get better and better every single week.

The band is continuing to work hard this week for our fourth and final invitational of the season before ISSMA Regionals. We added the rest of part three on the field, minus the tag ending, and we are excited to perform the full show to the public. We are continuing to make the show better and better every day and we can’t wait to see how the rest of the season will play out. Our next competition is at Center Grove High School for the Cavalcade of Champions and we perform at 2:45 P.M. Come out and support your Lewis Cass Marching Kings!
