Super Bowl LIV(54) Preview

Super Bowl LIV(54) will take place at Hard Rock Stadium just outside Miami, Florida, on February 2nd. The Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers will battle for the Lombardi trophy. The Chiefs have an extraordinary offense and the 49ers excel on the defensive end. The Chiefs open as 1 ½ point favorites and experts are relatively split with their picks. The 49ers might be the smarter bet however because of the teams being relatively even.

The Chiefs are averaging 43 points per game in the playoffs. Yes, they have only played two games but quarterback Patrick Mahomes was dominant in both outings. In the postseason he has nine total touchdowns(one rushing) and zero interceptions. He has thrown for over 600 yards and ran for over 100 yards in the two outings combined. These performances are great for any game, let alone the postseason where the defense gets even better. They also have a speedy Tyreek Hill at the wide receiver spot who is averaging over 13 yards per reception in the playoffs. The Chiefs have a great defense as well and they have only allowed about 19 points per game this year.

The 49ers have a great defense as well as a good offense. In two games they have allowed an average of 15 points per game. They have also scored an average of 32 which is the second best league wide in the playoffs. San Francisco has outscored their opponents by 34 points total in both playoff games. The 49ers do not have a single player that has played at a superb level like Mahomes, but they have played solid throughout the whole lineup.

Patrick Mahomes and Jimmy Garopollo (Starting QB’s of Super Bowl)

Will the Chiefs offense outplay the 49ers stellar defense or will the 49ers shut down the fast paced Chiefs offense? Patrick Mahomes should have a hard time getting off to a good start against this defense, but when he gets going, it’s hard to stop him. I believe this game comes down to how Mahomes plays. If Mahomes plays well the Chiefs should come away with the win. The 49ers lead the league in total rushing yards and allowed the least amount of rushing yards. They average 235.5 rushing yards per game and allow just average of 41.5.

In my opinion I think the Chiefs will take care of business and win 24-17. Many experts and fans believe this will be a very close game and usually the better defensive teams wins close Super Bowl games. This may be a fact, but I don’t see the 49ers shutting Mahomes down in the third and fourth quarter. I believe the 49ers will lead 10-7 at halftime, but the Chiefs will turn it around in the second half. I think Mahomes will struggle a little bit in the first half and then eventually flip the switch. I also believe the 49ers do not have enough offensive power to score in clutch moments against the Chiefs defense. Patrick Mahomes has come through multiple times, and I don’t see this time any different. I am very excited to see how this game turns out and I hope it is a close game.
