My First Time Watching Star Wars: Part 1 Prequels

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. Those were the first words that hooked me on the Star Wars franchise this past month. This past January I watched all nine Star Wars films in such a short span. I enjoyed most of the films for the most part and had a really fun time watching this series for the first time. I didn’t know what to expect from this great franchise due to never seeing any of them before but I gave them a shot.

I started this marathon of Star Wars and turned on Disney Plus on my television in my living room and here we go I said. I asked my friend Gannon on how I should watch the movies either going by episode or release date. He said the episode so I ran with it. Instantly, when I turned on episode one the Phantom Menace, I was already thinking of this as a disappointment and a mistake on my part of watching these films. The film was very slow and wasn’t something I had fun watching. I finished the movie and grew on some of the characters such as  Obi Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker. My favorite part was Kenobi killing Darth Maul in the process after Maul killed his master Qui-Gon Jinn in an amazing lightsaber battle. Next, was episode two, Attack of the Clones, and was this boring. Attack of the Clones brought more fighting than in this movie than the Phantom Menace, but there is only one famous scene from this movie and that was the fight between the Jedi against the drones which included Jango Fett, father of the best bounty hunter of all time in Boba Fett in the Star Wars franchise. This movie didn’t add much towards my experience to the franchise.

Going into the Revenge of the Sith, to put it lightly, the Star Wars franchise was 0/2 for me and a big disappointment. However, this movie was amazing  and definitely the best out of all the prequels movies. This movie was the one for Anakin Skywalker to change into the famous Darth Vader. Revenge of the Sith was great by showing Anakin’s fall to the dark side and his fall from graces from being once called the chosen one. During the fall to the dark side, Anakin found out he was going to be a father  with his wife Padme. Anakin then started to have dreams of Padme dying during childbirth and wanted to save her. He couldn’t get help from the Jedi because that is against the Jedi way to have emotional relationships and other half’s. Anakin talked with Palpainte to find a way to save his love but the only way was to join the dark side. Anakin took his advance and joined the dark side.

Anakin contributed to the famous order 66 in which was to kill all the living Jedi’s. Anakin killed many young children and Jedi’s. When Anakin was done with his mission, this master Obi Wan Keboni found him on Mustafar, a lava and volcanic planet. Obi Wan also brought Anakin’s wife Padme with him to help change Anakin back to the light. Anakin was enraged and choked Padme with the force and then pulled out his lightsaber to duel with master Obi Wan. This fight was one of the best lightsaber duels in the whole franchise with great dialogue in the fight between the two. Obi Wan jumped onto a hill and had the high ground on Anakin which was a couple feet above the lava. Obi Wan famously said ,“ It’s over Anakin I have the high ground”, then Anakin replied with “ You underestimate my powers.” Anakin jumps up to regain the high ground but Master Keboni cuts his legs off and he falls down to the ground. Obi Wan said that he loved him like a brother but Anakin said he hated Obi Wan. Anakin was on fire and Emperor Palpainte saved him in time to keep him alive. Anakin was put into the famous Darth Vader suit and was now known as Darth Vader and Anakin Skywalker died. Padme survived and had Anakin’s kids, Leia and Luke Skywalker. Padme then passed away due to a broken heart and no will to live.

The prequels of the Star Wars franchise were very different compared to the original trilogy. They were still a very fun watch in my opinion and Revenge of the Sith was the only food one. These three movies in my opinion are for the background of Darth Vader and why he turned to the dark side. I will continue my journey on and the next story will be the original movies. May the force be with you.
