An Open Letter to My Best Friend

I’ll forever be grateful to Mr. Shepler for placing us next to each other for our assigned seats back in sixth grade. We always joke that he’s the reason we’re best friends now because that’s when we started talking and becoming friends. That began our friendship, and we only became closer from that point on. Being stuck at home has made me realize how much I miss and appreciate you, so I decided to write this letter to thank you for everything.

One thing that I miss the most is our constant laughing. I love that we have all of these inside jokes, and we just know what the other is thinking with one look. The smallest thing, which usually isn’t really that funny, can make us laugh uncontrollably. You always know how to make me laugh and cheer me up when I’m not having the best day, and I appreciate it more than you know. Your laugh is contagious, and you have such a bright and caring personality.

I also loved making memories with you in band. We had so many fun times for the past four years, and I’m really going to miss performing with you and the rest of the band. We won state sophomore and senior year. For both of these shows, we began and ended the show next to each other on the field. This year was even more special to me because my own best friend was the drum major that directed my flute solo. You were right there with me for every show, and you always knew how to calm my nerves even though you were nervous yourself. I’m so proud of you for stepping up as drum major this year, and you did such an amazing job!

I cannot thank you enough for always being there for me. You’ve helped me through some of the hardest times in my life, and I love knowing that I can always count on you for anything and everything. You encourage me in everything I do and listen to me rant about everything that stresses me out. I wish that we could have all of these senior year experiences that were cancelled, but I’m happy that we made other memories for the past six years. I looked forward to so many things this year with you and our other friends, but at least we still had some pretty great experiences. Thank you so much for being the best friend I could ever ask for, and I can’t wait to make even more memories in the future!
