Lewis Cass wins JV tennis tournament

The JV tennis girls had an eventful day on Saturday when they won the Southwood tournament. Northwestern had dropped out the day before so there were only three teams. It was a nice surprise to win. I don’t think any of us expected the win.

All of the singles players won first place including Joy Mateo, the No. 1 singles player, Ali Hartley, No. 2, and Jessica Reinhart, No. 3. The rest of the team could not have been more proud. They worked really hard to win their matches. One of Joy Mateo’s matches went on for two and a half hours. All in all, they did a fantastic job.

Both of the doubles teams won at least one of their matches. Katie Lane and Sabrina Morgan won their match against Southwood and went into a super-tiebreaker with Northfield. If they would have won the tiebreaker, they would have gotten first place. The number two doubles team of Haley Burkett and Carly McRae won one of their matches. The doubles teams fought hard and did a great job. Gracie Conwell also went to the tournament but had to play with a girl from Southwood because Southwood was missing two girls who took the SAT. She did a terrific job despite her situation.

Lewis Cass has another tournament for varsity at Southwood next weekend. If you are looking for something fun to do, drive to Southwood and come watch the tennis girls as they play.
