Before every season, NBA fans wonder who the best team in the NBA is.  Usually major blockbusters occur in free agency over the summer before the season begins.  Some of the moves this season were Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving going to the Brooklyn Nets, Kawhi Leonard and Paul George going to the LA Clippers, but I think the biggest move this free agency was Anthony Davis getting traded to the Los Angeles Lakers.  Davis was traded from the New Orleans Pelicans for Lonzo Ball and Brandon Ingram. That created what I think the best duo in the NBA right now in Lebron James and Anthony Davis. The Lakers now have a good chance of winning the NBA finals. There are many reasons for why the Los Angeles Lakers are the best team in the NBA right now.

First, the Lakers have the best two players in the league today.  Lebron James is probably the greatest all-around player in the history of the NBA.  Lebron was the first pick in the 2003 NBA Draft to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Lebron has been to the NBA finals nine times in his career: 2007, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018.  Even though he only won the title three times, that is still very impressive. Anthony Davis was the first pick in the 2012 NBA Draft to the New Orleans Hornets. AD has been a consistent player over the years.  He has never been to the NBA finals in his career mainly because he has never had a great teammate until Lebron this year. Lebron and Davis could lead this team to the finals. James averages about 30 points per game every season.  AD averages around 25 points per game every season. They both can get the ball in their hands most of the time. They both can shoot and drive towards the basket. Teams need to have stars to score your points for the team.

Next, the Lakers squad has other good talent besides Lebron and AD.  JaVale McGee can play some good defense. He doesn’t score much, but the man can get rebounds and blocks in games.  Avery Bradley started the first game of this season for the Lakers. Bradley averaged 16 points per game last year. He is a decent three-point shooter, so his teammates need to find him open for a three.  JaVale McGee has had good defense over the years. Avery Bradley has been a key player for the Celtics over the years. It’s good to have key players besides the main stars to keep the team winning. If the main stars are having a bad night, then key players could step up and score some points for the team.  Every team only has like one or two star players, but you need five great players on the court at all times. Kyle Kuzma has been rising up on the Lakers roster. Kuzma has been averaging around 20 points per game in his first two years in the league. He was the 27th pick in the 2017 NBA Draft. Lonzo Ball was the second pick in that draft to the Lakers and Kuzma had a better season than Lonzo.  Ball only averaged ten points per game. Kuzma can be a game changer. He has been doing decent so far from his return from injury. Kuzma has been averaging around 20 points per game, with five rebounds and one assist.

Then, the bench for the Lakers has some decent players.  Point guard Rajon Rondo needs to score more, but he is a good play making guard.  Alex Caruso had an amazing game last year. On April 5, 2019, Caruso dropped 32 points, ten rebounds, and five assists.  Caruso and Rondo need to step it up to help out the team. If Caruso goes off like that every game, then who knows how good the Lakers will be.  Rondo may not score much, but he has good passing vision. Bench players can be as much as a key factor as the starters. All the starters have to do is get a good lead for the team so the bench players can keep up the momentum.  Lebron and AD can dominate at the beginning of the game and then the bench players can come in and keep the team rolling. That way the starters can get a break and the bench players can keep up the momentum for the team.

In conclusion, I think the Lakers are the best team in the NBA right now.  The Lakers have many reasons for why they are the best. They have star players in Lebron James and Anthony Davis.  The starting lineup right now doesn’t just consist of Lebron and AD. They have guard Avery Bradley and center Javale McGee.  Bradley can score and McGee can get rebounds. The bench for the Lakers is not that bad either. Alex Caruso had one good game, but I think he has a chance of dropping 30 points a game if given the right amount of time.
