Xbox or Playstation?

People nowadays find enjoyment in many things. From sports to playing an instrument, many liked to be entertained by certain activities. One topic that is very popular among people is gaming. It seems like it has taken the world by storm ever since the first dots and dials console was created in 1972. Two popular and well-known consoles that have caught attention over the years have been Xbox and Playstation. There is a lot of controversy regarding which console is better overall.

To decide which one is better, we should examine all the strengths each console has for different aspects of gaming. First on the list is the game library. There isn’t a huge difference in the game libraries of each one because they have last-generation consoles. Xbox gets access to a wider range of backward compatible games dating back to the original Xbox and Xbox Game Pass, which provides a huge suite of games, old and new, to play for a monthly fee. The only thing that gives Playstation the edge is that they have access to more exclusive games like The Last of Us 2, Uncharted, God of War, and more. Although Xbox also has access to games like Forza, Halo, and Gears, Playstation is better for gaming libraries. Xbox does, however, have better backwards compatibility. If you have a library of existing Xbox 360 and original Xbox games, you can play it on a newer Xbox console also. Playstation has the ability to play older games, but one has to pay monthly fees to do so, which isn’t convenient.

When it comes to hardware or physical appearance, Playstation has it won.  Both are impressively sleek, offering attractive designs that look great under a TV and can fit into a backpack without a problem. The PS4 has a hamburger like design that is chunkier, while the Xbox One X has a slimmer design. Each one starts with 500GB of storage that you can easily expand using external storage devices. The Xbox One controller has textured grips and can be customized, while Sony’s DualShock 4 is highly ergonomic and has a touchpad and reactive lightbar. The PS4 controller is the only one that supports micro USB charging right out of the box, and Xbox One owners will need to rely on AA batteries or buy a $25 charging kit to charge their controllers. Playstation is also the only console that supports virtual reality headsets, which is a huge attraction. Overall, Playstation has better hardware because its design is more attractive, and it is currently the only of the two to support virtual reality.

The aspect that really matters is the actual gameplay. Having good graphics and performance are key components in creating a quality console. On paper, both the PS4 and Xbox One have similar specs. They use a custom 8-core x86-64 AMD Jaguar processor that’s backed up by 8GB or RAM, with graphics taken care of by an AMD Radeon GPU. The PS4 is better at distributing its power throughout the system though because it uses some of its resources to power the operating system, instead of the actual game. Xbox displays a 900p resolution, and the PS4 displays a 1080p resolution, which gives playstation the upper-hand for graphics. Along with that, a big factor that adds to a console’s value is the entertainment outside of the actual games. Xbox has the unique ability to transmit one’s cable box’s TV signal, allowing you to quickly switch between playing a game and watching a show. On top of that, it allows Dolby Atmos, which allows people to enjoy spatial audio if they have the supplies. Both consoles have streaming apps like Netflix, Hulu, Disney +, etc, but for entertainment, Xbox is superior to Playstation.

In conclusion, Xbox also has more bang for your buck because its cheapest console is $249, while Playstation is $399. The Xbox’s superior value led to me getting one in 2015. I’ve had the same console ever since, and it has treated me well for the most part. Most of my friends have an Xbox as well, and I’ve had some good times playing with them over the years. Although I’ve had an Xbox for many years, I’d say Playstation is better in my opinion. It’s just more slick and has more game selection in the end. Having a large selection of games is important to me and my gaming experience. Overall, it boils down to personal preference and what console appeals to each person the most.
