The ending to last year’s college football season was very unexpected. When the University of Georgia beat TCU (Texas Christian University) 65-7, the college football fans were shocked. Although TCU was not expected to get out of the early rounds of the play-off season, they made  it all the way to the college football championship.

     The first kickoff of the 2023-2024 season will take place August 26, at 2:30 P.M. In this game Notre Dame and Navy will face off at an unusual location. This particular game is unique because it is being played in Ireland. It’s one of few games not going to be played in the United States. Since the game isn’t going to be played in the U.S., it will bring bunches of attention to one of the most popular sports in the world.There are a few teams in particular that are looking very good for this year, and some that aren’t looking so good.

     The preseason #1 team is the University of Georgia, according to CollegeFootballNews.com. Georgia’s preseason rank last year was #3. This year they are looking very strong, which is nothing new. Anyone who watches college football knows that Georgia is one of the most dominant programs of all time. With the new year they are returning thirteen starters. Georgia’s head coach is Kirby Smart. At the beginning of his coaching it was always his goal to coach at his alma mater. Smart’s record while coaching at the University of Georgia is 81-15.

     Coming into the season Ohio State is the #2 ranked team. They are coming off a tough postseason loss to Georgia (42-41) on December 31, 2022. Ohio State and Georgia have never been one of the biggest rivals in college football, but there sure is bad blood between them. Because of this, Ohio State is looking to get revenge this coming year in the postseason where they are sure to face off. The Buckeyes are returning thirteen starters while adding twenty new faces to the team. Ryan Day is returning as the head coach. He has been in the Ohio State program for a very long time; climbing from caretaking manager, to quarterbacks coach, to head coach. On the other hand, he has had a short NFL coaching career, as the quarterbacks coach for the San Francisco 49er’s for one year. Ohio State is another very successful program with over 850 all-time wins.

     Rounding out the top three, is the University of Michigan. Over the 144 years that Michigan has had a football team, they have produced over 400 NFL (National Football League) players according to ProFootballRefernce.com. Michigan is not just one of the most victorious teams, but is the most all-time with 989 wins. Currently Michigan’s coach is Jim Harbaugh. Harbaugh is on the older side of the coaches in college football being fifty nine. His coaching career has spanned over six teams, with two being in the NFL. He has coached the San Francisco 49er’s, Las Vegas Raiders, Stanford, Western Kentucky, San Diego, and the University of Michigan.

     In conclusion, I believe that this football season is shaping up to be very exciting. Ohio, Michigan, Georgia, and Notre Dame are some of the teams to weather out for. They are very powerful and feared by many other teams. It’s going to be a tough game for anyone facing them.
