We all know about our big variety show that Lewis Cass has every year during homecoming week. All sorts of acts are performed, but mostly singing. We have some talented people at Lewis Cass, and we love when they share the talent with our school. During the show, there were four student announcers. These announcers are called the emcees. They are the senior class president and vice president, plus two selected others. This year’s emcees were Mirikle Prince, Lindsay Landis, Wyatt Loos, and L.J Hillis. They did a really good job introducing each act while also bringing some laughs.
The biggest part of the show is the senior skit. With the help of Mrs. Burch, Lindsay Landis and I organized the skit. There were multiple meetings, and a few practices during and outside of school. Mrs. Burch was a huge help for us, and we could not be more thankful for her and all that she did for us. The senior class performed a funny skit, and the biggest goal for us was to hear laughs while just having some fun and looking back on memories. The senior skit consisted of students acting as teachers, a game show, homecoming court, senior superlatives, girls vs boys in the morning, and then a senior slideshow. We could not have made this happen without Mrs. Burch and all her dedication to help.
Speaking of Mrs. Burch, most of you think Mrs. Burch is grumpy, or just here to tell you to do your edgenuity, but trust me, she has some pretty cool dance moves. During each act, Mrs. Burch was behind the curtain lip syncing hysterically and dancing the most dramatic dance moves to every song. Mrs. Burch even quoted, “My favorite part of the variety show was probably dancing behind the curtain, because nobody knows about it.” She was the life of the party. Even funnier, Mr. Wilson just stared at her and would shake his head because he was trying not to laugh.
When it was actually time for the senior skit, behind the curtain was hectic. All the seniors were running around, changing clothes for different acts, and trying to figure out what was next. There was lots of yelling, but we were actually whispering. The past few weeks for our school had been busy, so planning this skit was difficult. Most of the seniors have sports they needed to be at and they just hopped in on skit day. The whole senior class was a little all over the place.. Behind the curtain, you would notice silent yelling at each other for what was next and who was doing what.
The variety show was actually really fun, even if the show wasn’t perfect, the senior class had a good time, and the crowd did too. Behind the curtain was definitely chaotic, but everyone still enjoyed it and will look back on these memories. If I had any advice for future variety shows, it would be to not stress about it and just have fun. I promise the crowd will think it is funny and this is your one opportunity to make fun of any teachers you’d like!
