This past summer, the cheerleaders here at Lewis Cass attended UCA (Universal Cheerleaders Association) Cheer Camp. UCA camp is a fundamental first step for a successful cheer season. We had the amazing opportunity to be able to attend this camp and improve our skills. UCA camp is a three-day camp of hard work and dedication to your cheer team. We were able to improve our motions, along with stunting and our potential for cheering. The UCA staff members came out to Kokomo High School to work with Lewis Cass and several other schools. The staff at camp was there to challenge us and our mentality. We were so exhausted after each day but full of excitement from the new things we were learning.
Going to UCA camp, we had the chance to have a few of our very own cheerleaders try out for the title of being an “All-American” cheerleader. An All-American is an individual trying out for the UCA cheer and dance. Based on your skills, if you make it, you are invited to perform at special events across the country. This year, we had Mirikle Prince, Cassidy Roller, Kadin Robertson, Emma Nelson, Mya Case, Liberty Preston, Mia Hall, and Lauren Tocco try out and were offered the title of All-American Cheerleader. From the success of making this title, the Lewis Cass cheerleaders now have the opportunity to take a trip to Disney in November for an amazing experience and a great performance.
This trip to Disney is something we had to work very hard for because our cheer funds were unable to cover it. To help with this we took opportunities to go to local businesses to ask for fundraising and donations. We saved thousands of dollars going around with each other asking for donations and sponsorships to help make this trip possible. We also participated in the Texas Roadhouse roll fundraiser and continued to make more money for our cheer funding. It was a process, but we are finally where we need to be.
The cheer team has worked very hard this year, and we are so excited to have an opportunity like this one. From where we started, to where we are now, we are a very experienced cheerleading team. Every practice we continue to work hard and come together as a team for encouragement. This cheer team is full of goal setting and working hard to reach our goals.
During our time at Disney, we will experience fun, hard work, and dedication. We will learn a dance to perform and will be able to explore the park. This trip will be not only good for our team fundamentally, but we will also get to experience team bonding. Team bonding is one of the most important things for cheerleading. We have to be able to encourage each other and have fun around each other. Kadin Robertson quotes, “Cheer camp this year was so fun, and it brought our team together. I am so excited to go to Disney to experience this fun time together and grow closer as a team.”
The cheer team here at Lewis Cass is already very good at getting along and lifting each other up. Lauren Tocco said, “Since I’m a freshman this was my first cheer camp, and I thought it was a great way to get to know my team and I’m thankful for the opportunity to be able to go to Disney.” We would not be able to make this trip without working together. We are so excited to have the chance to go on this trip and have an amazing time with each other!
