The Lady Kings continue to achieve success this 2023-24 basketball season. The Lady Kings are currently 15-2 and are undefeated in the TRC (Three River Conference). The Lady Kings are the first girls’ basketball team to come out with a winning season in over 20 years from Lewis Cass. “It obviously feels great to have girls who have put in a lot of work and it’s something I expected with the talent coming back,” Coach Amor said. The Lady Kings have some incredible talent this year as Aftin Griffin also added, “It is a great feeling to be a part of a team with the first winning season in 20 years. It feels great to know that all of our hard work as a team is paying off. It has been fun this year to come out of most of the games smiling and happy, as opposed to last year.” This season has helped boost the Lady Kings’ confidence. Aftin Griffin said it best, “Overall, I think our team has done a great job this year of really working together. There isn’t one person in particular that really outperforms the rest. We win games because of a combination of all our strengths, and we have shown that this season.”
The Lady Kings all contribute in different ways, senior Kinsey Mennen leads the team in blocks and rebounds, sophomore Aftin Griffin leads the team in steals and scoring, senior Heta Kosunen averages a double-double every night, sophomore Ava Hubner contributes shooting 67% from the 3 point line, junior Mylie Sipe contributes with her incredibly positive attitude and amazing defense and accuracy from the 3pt line, senior Faith Helvie contributes great leadership and defense, sophomore Anna Hedrick contributes by playing great defense and bringing great speed to the game, sophomore Kylie Logan and freshman Laney Davis contribute to the team with great attitudes and energy. Coach Amor also added, “Every good team I’ve coached has had players with varsity experience. We also have some of the most athletic kids here at Lewis Cass. Our cross country and track stars, Aftin and Anna, and our softball stars Ava and Kylie. I am a firm believer that success in one sport can lead to success in another.” The Lady Kings have a great future ahead with the talent returning every year. When asked what team Lewis Cass would like to draw his response was, “When looking at a team’s record, Pioneer is struggling the most, but it would help to obviously get a bi.”
The Lady Kings will continue to fight to stay undefeated in the TRC and hopefully make it far in the sectional. Overall the Lady Kings have a hopeful future to come throughout the years.
