This 2024 college football season was nothing short of amazing! From game-winning Hail Marys to having some of the best quarterbacks college football has ever seen. This is why it has been one of the best seasons of all time. College football’s first season was in 1869, according to NCAA.com. The first game was played on November 6 between Rutgers and Princeton. This year’s National Championship game was played between the Michigan Wolverines and the Washington Huskies. Coming into the game, both teams boasted undefeated seasons.
Michigan started their season off by handily beating some conference foes in Maryland and Nebraska. Near the end of the season, Michigan took down Penn State with a close score of 24-15 which solidified their spot at the top of ranks of college football. Everyone knows ever since the beginning of football, Michigan has been one of the most dominant teams to take the field. In the past five seasons, the Wolverines have had a superb record of 51 and 11, according to Sports-Reference.com. For the past four years, Michigan has been lucky enough to have one of the best running backs in the history of college football in Blake Corum even though this year was his “break-out” year. Corum now holds three records at the University of Michigan: total touchdowns (61), rushing touchdowns (58), and single-season touchdowns (27). He ended his senior season with 1,245 rushing yards. Another one of the Wolverines’ go-to players was Roman Wilson, a wide receiver. Although being one of the smallest players on the field at 6’0, he showed time and again how good he was at manipulating the secondary and getting open even though whoever guarded him, may have been taller, stronger, or even more athletic.
The Washington Huskies were considered more than an underdog coming into this long-awaited game. There were some people that even thought Washington should not have even made it to the final four teams, even though, throughout the regular season, they bested USC and the commanding Oregon Ducks twice. When the Ducks fell for the second time, this really started to bring some attention to Washington’s very underrated team. In the playoffs, the Huskies drew Texas, led by their star quarterback, Quinn Ewers. In the past couple of seasons, Ewers has really brought some light to the dying program in Texas. The main reason that the Huskies were so successful this year was thanks to their quarterback, Michael Penix Jr. Before dominating at Washington, Penix played for the University of Indiana. Throughout his college career, Penix suffered season-ending injuries all four years he was at Indiana. When he transferred his luck seemingly shifted heavily in his favor. No more injuries, just a high-powered, dangerous team that went far in the tournament.
In conclusion, this 2024 class has by far the most talented players ever seen play college football. From electric running backs to QBs who can throw the pigskin a quarter mile this season was nothing short of amazing. However, this season was definitely not the end of all this talent; there are some high-profile players that are on the up-and-coming including Arch Manning who has already brought in more money in his NIL deals than the current NFL MVP frontrunner, Brock Purdy.
