Going to college is a bittersweet experience. On one hand, you are leaving the life you have always known, but on the other, you are starting your future. In order to feel most at home if you plan on moving for college, I recommend packing things that not only make you feel comfortable but also packing the little things you might not think of. If you are anything like me, you hate packing. I always feel like I have forgotten something while packing, so having a list is very helpful.
According to Nitro, the first few items people should think about while packing are clothes. Undergarments, pants, shorts, pajamas, sweats, shirts, rain boots, and belts are just a few clothing items on Nitro’s clothing list. Unless you are going to college in Arizona, I recommend packing clothes for all seasons. If you do not have enough storage, you could always swap out clothes during breaks. Since most people think about packing clothes first since it is so obvious, I would like to remind you of some items that you might forget.
According to Dorm Therapy, there are ten common items people may be forgetting to pack. You know those items that are just always in your house? For example, a broom, trash bags, extension cords, and batteries. Those are all common items people forget to pack for college. More helpful items to remember are a tool kit, first aid kit, portable fan, command strips, and a trash can.
Some more items to bring to make your space feel like home can still slip your mind. If you are in a dorm, twin XL bedding can make your dorm feel more like home. Bringing pictures and room decor can also serve as a reminder of your family and friends while you are away from home. The Edit Fashion recommends bringing a rug to make your dorm or apartment more cozy and comfortable. Some lights other than the terrible fluorescent lights overhead can also bring warmth back into your space- like lamps and fairy lights.
If you are attending a college with communal bathrooms, you may also need to bring additional toiletries and items. The Edit Fashion recommends bringing a bathrobe, which can be a great way to make you feel comfortable while stepping out of the communal shower. Shower shoes, a shower caddy, shampoo and conditioner, body wash, shaving cream, and a razor are some more common things people forget while thinking about items to pack in college.
Leaving for college does not have to be a scary thing. As long as you pack right, leaving for college can be a breeze. Thinking about all the little things you have to pack can definitely be overwhelming, but packing lists can make packing a lot less stressful. I recommend using this article and other lists you find in order to help you build your personalized packing list. Optimizing storage and tidiness allows you to pack what you desire without running out of space (hopefully).
