Just imagine lots of people in a packed gym supporting two very competitive schools, they show their support by cheering loudly and the players in the gym feel goosebumps from the amount of support they have. They play hard both fighting to win their sectional game. The Lady Kings are going to experience this next week as they battle North Miami in a sectional game. The Lady Kings played the North Miami Warriors already this season and pulled a 46-31 win. The Lady Kings still have a few more games and practices ahead to prepare for this sectional game.
Assistant Coach, Karl Eshelman, was asked what some of the biggest advantages and disadvantages this game will bring, “We have beaten them before. We know we are better and so do they. Some disadvantages are that they get to try something different or fix what they think caused them to lose last time. We have to be ready for their adjustments.” Karl was also asked if the prior experience from playing them would help them be more successful, “Yes. Knowing what North Miami’s tendencies are against us helps us plan for the next time we play them. It is always harder to anticipate what a team will do against you that you have never played before.” Karl also added, “You have to look at each game and each opponent individually. North Miami is no different. We prepare to win every game we play no matter who it is against. Looking past an opponent because of their record or previous performance will set you up for failure. It’s hard to be over-prepared for an opponent.”
Junior, Mylie Sipe, was asked what the biggest challenges North Miami will give the Lady Kings, “They do have an advantage against us because they already played us and they will be in their home environment. I also think they will pressure us more.” Sipe was also asked what she could do to prepare for this game, “I can best prepare by having a good mindset and having confidence in myself and in my team.”
The Lady Kings will play the Lady Warriors on February 2, 2024. The Lady Kings are 18-3 and have had one historical season. They have taken the three losses not lightly and they are using these losses as motivation. I truly believe the Lady Kings will go farther than this sectional game.
