On January 16, 2024, the Philadelphia Eagles lost their playoff game to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. After the game according to NetSeek.com, Jason Kelce reportedly told a select few of his teammates he planned on retiring instead of coming back for his fourteenth season in the NFL (National Football League). His brother, Travis, is 34 years old and is currently in his eleventh season playing TE (tight end) for the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Eagles and Buccaneers met last Monday, January 15, to determine the wildcard game. From the opening kickoff, Tampa controlled the game taking a 10-0 lead after the first. At the half, the Buccaneers were dominating with a score of 16-9, little did Philly know that would be their only scoring quarter of the game. The final score ended up being 32-9. A big reason that helped Tampa Bay to come out on top was keeping the Eagles below 100 yards rushing; according to CBSSports.com the total rushing yards for Philly was forty-two.
For those who do not know, Jason Kelce is a center. The center is the middle of the five main spots on the line of scrimmage. This position is usually thought of as being the QB (quarterback) of the offensive line. His main responsibilities include: snapping the ball to the QB, blocking, and even pulling to the outside to block sometimes. Ever since Jason got to Philly, he has helped to build one of the best offensive lines in the game. Although not as much in his early years as an Eagle, in the past couple of seasons, they have had one of the best lines in the league. Their famous QB sneak has baffled both spectators and even announcers because it works so well. According to StatMuse.com, this year alone, the Eagles went for it a total of 225 times, and they converted 108 times. With a conversion percentage of 48% Philadelphia led the league.
Some people know the Kelce brothers because of their podcast, New Heights with Jason and Travis. On the podcast they talk about a very broad range of things, but obviously the Kelces’ love talking sports. The majority of people say that Jason is much less popular than his younger brother, Travis. One reason for this could be all of the drama about Taylor Swift. This started way back on the fourteenth of October when Travis was photographed holding hands with the pop singer.
In conclusion, it does not matter who you put Jason Kelce with, he will make the best of it and make something out of nothing, he is a true team player and does not care if he gets the credit even though he is one of the best lineman the NFL has ever seen. His being retired is sure to make an impact on the league and his team leaving his mark on the Eagles organization as a whole.
