It is late in the day, you just got off of a long shift at work and do not feel like cooking dinner. You decide to go get some fast food, but you are not in the mood for any greasy burgers or fries that most places offer. You are in the mood for a delicious sandwich, and what better place to go for an appetizing sub than Subway? Swinging by you are met with a wide variety of delicious sandwiches to try. But as you are deciding what to order, a new menu item catches your eye. A foot-long cookie? Why in the world are they selling a foot-long cookie?
Well, money obviously, but it is definitely working out for the company, as they have announced their new menu items, which they dub the “Sidekicks,” have already surpassed their sales expectations as, since their introduction in January 2024 to the current date of February 8, 2024, they have sold over 3.5 million items according to Al.com. According to Subway CEO, John Chidsey, “Sidekicks are a big hit with guests and a much different brand than it was when we began.”
Cookies are not the only thing on the Sidekicks menu, as Subway has also established a partnership with Auntie Anne’s and Cinnabon to include foot-long pretzels and churros as a part of their menu. This is an interesting and pretty unique addition to the menu, as I doubt most people would be going to Subway for a pretzel or churro. The cookie makes sense since cookies have been a very important and popular part of the Subway menu for years. Better than the sandwiches if you ask me. But I take my job here at Lewis Cass Courier very seriously, and to prove that, I will be purchasing these new menu items and telling you all if they are worth it or not.
Starting with the churro provided by Cinnabon is a worthwhile addition to the Subway treat line-up. There is not much to say about it other than the fact that it is very delicious. It is a normal churro coated in a lot of cinnamon and baked for thirty seconds in the oven. Coming straight out of the toaster, the warmth of the churro tastes great in your mouth, and the cinnamon seasoning will linger on your tongue for a good while after having a bit, so I would give this churro an eight out of ten.
Next is the Auntie Anne’s footlong pretzel, and this pains me to say dear reader, but this pretzel is just mid. Like it is fine as far as pretzels go, but it is nowhere near up to the same quality as other pretzels I have had in my life. It tastes very dry, and has almost no flavor, even with the added salt on it. However it is worth noting I did not get any dipping sauce with it, so this may help your experience. Auntie Anne’s usually provides very delicious treats, so I was quite disappointed at this.
Finally, we have the titular foot-long cookie itself. Now dear reader, if there is one thing you should know about me is that I am fat, and as a fat man, I love cookies. So, when I tell you that the Subway foot-long cookie is possibly the most delicious thing I have ever eaten in my life, then I think you should believe me. The cookie is prepared the same way as the pretzel and churro, cooked for thirty seconds in the oven, and is then given to you in a small tray. The food I have reviewed today was purchased from the Subway in Galveston, Indiana where you can get it prepared by none other than former King’s Courier journalist William Rose himself! Now, I mention this because I live very close to this establishment, so rather than driving and wasting gas, I walked there. It’s about a ten-minute walk from my home to there, and on a windy February day no less. And despite all of that, once I arrived home, the cookie was still piping hot. Hotter than the other two. Upon cutting a piece of the cookie off and eating it, there was no competition between all three. The way the cookie is fresh from the oven and still very soft allows it to melt perfectly in your mouth and the savor the taste of the chocolate is unbeatable. And you can do the entire foot of this! Now let it be known, reader, I did NOT eat this whole foot-long cookie alone. The foot-long cookie comes in at a whopping fourteen thousand calories, so eat this at your own discretion.
To end, I believe these “Sidekicks” are a wonderful addition to the Subway menu, and hopefully, this signals the start of more treats to come!
