The Logansport Art Show started February 8 in Logansport with the reception starting this Thursday, February 22, from 6-7 pm. The art show consists of various drawings and works of art from different surrounding schools. There are thirteen projects from eleven students here at Lewis Cass. There are three students who submitted drawings: Kiana Clark, Nolan Hines, and Evan Stone. Eight students submitted ceramic projects: Destiny Bates, Kaylee Copeland, Anna Hedrick, Emma Hildebrand, Katie Hurst, Kylie Logan, Larissa Rominger, and Kamie Silcox. To get a further look into this event I interviewed Lewis Cass’s art teacher, Mr Hurst, and young aspiring artist and Lewis Cass student with two drawings submitted in the art show, Nolan Hines.
Mr. Hurst was asked to provide some background information about the Logansport Art Show. He explained, “Logansport High School hosts an annual art show for the schools in Cass County. The show is open to any current student with art projects from this school year. Mr. Hurst was asked how important this event was for his students. Hurst replied, “The art gallery in Logansport High School is a great place to highlight all of the art students’ hard work. It is big enough to hold many pieces with a lot of wall space and floor space. Now we just need to put one in here at Cass!” I agree with Mr. Hurst that our school should highlight our young aspiring artists.
Next, I interviewed the young Vincent van Gogh himself, Nolan Hines. I first asked Nolan what projects he submitted to the art show. Nolan responded, “Mr. Hurst has selected two of my artworks for the Logansport Art Show. One was a semi-realistic drawing of the Marvel character, Wolverine, and the other was a realistic drawing of a brown bear.” I next asked Hines if this was his first year being in the art show. Hines responded that last year he had one drawing selected for the 2023 art show. The piece selected for last year’s show was a drawing of the St. Louis Arch. I asked both Hurst and Hines about the importance of the Logansport Art Show. Nolan Hines replied, “I would say my favorite part of the art show is just seeing my artwork and my classmates’ artwork being displayed for others to view. I also enjoy seeing some of the other drawings, paintings, and ceramic work done by the students from other schools.” Many students work hours upon hours to have his or her work displayed in the show. I asked Nolan how long it took him to create his drawings he said, “I would say that my drawing of Wolverine took me about two and a half weeks of in-class work, which is around ten hours. As for the bear drawing, I would estimate around three weeks of classwork time. So, that would be around thirteen hours to complete”
Finally, I asked Nolan what he hopes viewers take away from experiencing his artwork at the Logansport High School art show. “I hope that the viewers of the artworks, specifically seeing the artworks done by Cass students, see just how much detail and creativity is put into our work, as well as seeing a good representation of how great of an art teacher in Mr. Hurst we have at Lewis Cass” In conclusion, if you are not busy or you are just sitting at home this Thursday, stop by the Logansport art show from 6 to 7 pm!
