As Ray Charles once said, “ I got Georgia on my mind…” Like Ray said in his famous song, I had Georgia on my mind this spring break when I took a trip to the Peach State with my family. I visited various places and attractions such as the historic houses and streets in Savannah, Georgia. The trip began at 7:30 am on a Saturday. Passengers on this adventure included My uncle Bradley and Miranda and their exchange student Ana Pia Pérez de Velasco We left the residence of Bradley and Miranda Armstrong in a Nissan Armada with a fire burning in our hearts for the day’s journey ahead. When we left the disgusting, cold weather of Kokomo, we were overjoyed at the possibilities that lay ahead on the trip.
Although we were excited to be in the beautiful Peach State, we would not be there until Sunday afternoon. We planned on stopping in the Volunteer State (Tennessee) because we agreed that it would be unfair to have the Lewis Cass alum, Bradley Alexander Armstrong, drive for such a prolonged amount of time. So, on the way down we stopped in Pigeon Forge and stayed in a wood cabin Airbnb with a hot tub. But, before we stopped in Pigeon Forge we made a visit to the largest convenience store in the world, Buc ee’s in Sevierville, Tennessee. My review of Buc ee’s is that it is extremely overpriced and overrated! It was shoulder-to-shoulder people and you could barely move around. The pulled pork sandwich that I got was okay at best and did not warrant the $7 price tag, but the one redeeming fact about my trip at Buc ee’s would be that the drinks were a cheaper price than most normal gas stations locally. However, if the only redeeming factor is the price of your drinks does not make Bucces worth the trip.
Once we left The Volunteer State, we officially had Georgia on our minds. Before we were in Georgia, we stopped to eat at a Zaxby’s Chicken which I had never eaten at before. My experience at Zaxby’s was exceptional, to say the least. I ordered the chicken sandwich and it was easily the best Chicken Sandwich I have ever had in my entire life. And, to complement the sandwich, the fries were also great because they paired well with the taste of the chicken because of the zesty ranch. It was easily a 9.5 out of 10 on the Harrison Clark fast-food scale.
Now with Buc ee’s and Zaxbys in the rearview mirror, we finally arrived in Savannah, Georgia. Although we spent a couple of days in Savannah we did not stay there, we stayed 30 minutes south of the city on Tybee Island. Due to inclement weather, we were not able to visit the beach all that much, so we spent most of our time in the city of Savannah. In Savannah, there are many attractions to see and there are many tours you can take such as the Old Town Trolley Tours which was the tour my family and I took. According to their website, one one-day tour only costs $29.99 per person which is a very low price considering the amount of knowledge you gain over the eight-hour tour. There are very interesting and interactive experiences I would recommend. I learned a lot about the city of Savannah such as who founded it and the history of the city itself.
As mentioned previously in the article, I went on this journey with my uncle, his wife, and their exchange student from Pueblo, Mexico, Ana. When asked a few questions about how she felt about the trip, Ana responded, “My favorite part of the trip was going to the beach, going to see new places all around Savannah and the minigolf.” When asked what she will remember most about the trip, Ana said, “I will always remember the night walks on the beach and walking around the island.” Lastly, when asked if there was one thing she could take back and redo from the trip what would it be? Ana said, “I would have tried to socialize more with the group at the house instead of going to my room.”
In conclusion, my trip to Georgia was an excellent trip. I will never forget the memories I made with my family, the experiences I had, and the things I learned. If you are ever wondering where you would like to vacation, I would highly recommend Georgia!
