Life at Cass…. Complete! High School is coming to an end for the senior class this year, and for myself, personally. I have attended Lewis Cass High School since sixth grade when they moved us in, and it has not changed a bit from sixth grade to my senior year. High school is full of ups and downs, and the main thing about high school is learning how to deal with adversity, whether it is through sports, school work, or friends. I have made tons of memories and friends throughout my high school years, whether it was in sports or hanging out with friends after school. Some of my best memories have come from sports, I played basketball my freshman, and sophomore years of high school, and baseball all four years of high school. Some of my best friends in high school have come from those sports, whether it was the bus rides to games, laughing with the guys, or celebrating after a big win in the locker room together.
Going through high school when you are young can be scary but if you have close friends and good friends it will make your time a whole lot easier and way more fun at the same time. I do not have a whole lot of tips, but I will say start strong and early on your school work because when you get towards the end of your high school years, having bad grades or a bad GPA can be really devastating trying to bring it back up when you are a senior. I would also say to always treat your teachers and the staff with respect and kindness, as you never know what they are going through or when you will need a recommendation for a job or help with assignments. I have had an enjoyable four years of high school, and although I am excited to graduate and head off to college I will miss my friends and some of my classmates and teachers.
I asked fellow classmates and friends of mine about their high school experience and here is what Dixie Wagoner had to say. Dixie is a very good athlete and she also said that some of her favorite experiences have come from playing sports with friends, and even winning sectionals which is a big achievement. Dixie also enjoyed getting to meet new exchange students and learning about what life is like back home for them. Another memory Dixie and I share is being able to go to friends’ houses after the football games or basketball games and spend time with lots of different people we did not know we would like if it was not for being there after the games. Dixie plans on attending the University of Indiana-South Bend to study speech-language pathology, where she is wanting to work as an SLP in a school, which will require a master’s degree.
Another classmate I spoke to was Keira Wrightsman. I asked Keira what her favorite memories were in high school, and she said, “I have loved becoming closer friends with the people in my class that I have never really talked to before.” I asked Keira what are some things she wished she would have done differently, and she replied, “I wish I would’ve been more involved in sports so that I could have been more active and create better relationships with the people I go to school with.” Keira is going to Ball State University to study Psychology, and she is planning on being a therapist for children or teenagers or becoming a school counselor.
I would say after all of this, the best thing you can do in high school is make memories and have the most fun with friends and classmates that you can, because sooner or later your time will be up and it will be time for college.
