What a time it was for the gents and gals at the Lewis Cass Prom! You may be asking how I went to prom as a sophomore. Although I am a sophomore, I was able to attend because I went with seniors, Alexa Madrigal, Keria Wrightsman, and junior, Nolan Hines. There are many festivities that go into prom such as where to eat, where to take pictures, and what to wear. So I asked multiple students who went to prom what their experience was like, and I even will give insight to my own experience at prom.
The arguably most important part of prom is where to take pictures before the dance itself. My group flirted with multiple ideas such as Highland Park and downtown Kokomo, but the girls ultimately decided on the lake at St Joan of Arc Church in Kokomo. To get another group’s perspective I asked seniors, Dixie Wagoner and Kennedy Thorpe. To start, Dixie told me her group went to Indiana University – Kokomo because they wanted concrete and greenery in their pictures. Kennedy said her group took pictures at Highland Park at the open bridge. Kennedy also added that Highland Park is her favorite picture spot because it is very beautiful there.
Another important aspect of prom is where to eat after pictures and before the prom dance. My group went with the simple choice of Olive Garden on the grounds that one of our group members, Nolan Hines, had never eaten there before which was mind-blowing to us all that he never eaten at Olive Garden. Nevertheless, when asked what he thought about Olive Garden, Nolan said, “That may have been the best pasta and breadsticks I have ever had in my entire life.” Now from another perspective, I asked seniors, Wyatt Orpurt and Mirikle Prince, where they ate dinner. Wyatt said he and his girlfriend, Lewis Cass 2023 graduate, Kadence Miller, ate at Pastarific. Wyatt mentioned he enjoyed it. When asked where Mirikle Prince went to dinner, she told me she and her group ate at Texas Roadhouse. I asked Mirikle a follow-up question about whether the rolls were good. She added that they were delicious!
Lewis Cass is not the only school that hosts a prom, of course. Some students have dates that go to other schools, so I asked the question, how does the Lewis Cass prom compare to other schools’ proms? Senior, Dixie Wagoner, told me, “My boyfriend went to a private Christian academy, so this prom was definitely different. There were a lot more people there (at Cass), and the music was much better in my opinion.” Senior, Keira Wrightsman, told me, “I’ve been to Western’s prom, and I’d say while Lewis Cass’s prom was very fun, Western’s prom had better music.”
In conclusion, I wanted to know what students thought of our prom this year. So, I asked attendees to describe their experience at prom. It seemed that everyone enjoyed themselves because seniors, Keria Wrightman, Dixie Wagner, and Wyatt Orpurt, told me they all had a blast at prom and their only complaint would have to be how hot and sweaty they got while dancing. But, to me, that does not seem like that big of a deal so it seems the Lewis Cass Prom 2024 was a major success! I personally can not wait to see what next year’s prom has in store!
