If you have ever been in school or are currently in school, what is the one thing most people are excited about? The answer is summer! Summer is a time when you can travel, hang out with your friends, stay up late, and enjoy the outdoors. Tons of people all over the world enjoy summer, ranging from little kids, all the way to adults. Some communities even get together over the summer, throw block parties, participate in parades, and just enjoy each other’s company. So what were some popular summer vacation place destinations with Lewis Cass students and staff over the summer?
First, Lilly Hammond, sophomore at Lewis Cass, told us where she went over the summer. When interviewed, Hammond said she went to Mackinac Island in Michigan. When Lilly was there, she rode a ferry to the town of Mackinac. She next stated when in Mackinac she got to eat amazing food and saw the cool historic town. When asked if she would go back and why Lilly said, “ Yes, I would one hundred percent go back because I just loved the coastal setting and since we could only spend one day there, I did not get to explore everything so I would love to get to know the island more!”
Next, Maddy Willis, sophomore at Lewis Cass, went to Pine Lake Water park on the Ohio state line. Maddy said the water park was on a lake, so it was very different compared to Kokomo Beach or some other type of water park. When asked what she participated in she said, “ I rode racer slides into the lake, jumped off piers, and did a thing where you are on a buoy that goes up and down in the lake.” Willis also said she spent the whole day there and would go back because she enjoyed it. There were a lot of things to do, so she stayed occupied. She also added that the weather was nice, there were not a lot of people, and the food was good.
In addition, Alyiah Reynoso, also a sophomore at Lewis Cass, was asked questions about where she went on summer vacation. Alyiah said she went to Florida and Seattle, Washington. Reynoso went on a five-hour flight to Washington and drove twelve hours to Florida. While in Seattle, she went to a Seattle Mariners baseball game, went to Pikes Place, which is a farmers market, and went to Leavenworth which is another city in Washington. When Reynoso went to Florida She stated, “ I stayed in Santa Rosa beach and baby sharks swam by me, when I was in the ocean. There were three shark attacks close to the beach I was at, so I was somewhat scared. There were double red flags at the beach, and no one was allowed in the water.” When going to Florida she traveled with her mom, step-dad, and step-siblings. However, when going to Washington, she went with her dad. Finally, Alyiah said she would go back to both places because they were calming in a way and Washington felt like home because of all her cousins she got to hang out with there.
Last, for the students, Alexis Alford, a junior at Lewis Cass, explained how she went to four different state parks over the summer. Alford said how the first three state parks her family went to were back to back. She and her family started the trip at Mississinewa where they invited friends to hang out with them and celebrated her sister’s birthday. The second park they went to was Prophetstown (near Lafayette ), which Alexis said was her favorite because they had a water park where she spent her whole day. At night, she spent her time riding her bike on the trails which were through meadows and wildflowers. The third state park she went to was called Lieber State Park (near Greencastle ). At this park, she and her family spent their time on the beach or playing sand volleyball. Alford stated, “ After every day, though, we had the same routine we would eat dinner and for the rest of the night we would play euchre.” Lastly, right before school started she went to Spring Mill State Park where she hiked and went on a boat cave tour. When asked if she would return to these places she said, “ If I got the opportunity to go back to these state parks I would! It was a fun time making memories with my family!”
Finally, Senora Karmel, a staff member at Lewis Cass, shared about her trip to Costa Rica over the summer. Her flight to Costa Rica was only about five hours but she and the group she went with had long layovers in Atlanta while switching planes. Senora took 6 students with her and when in Costa Rica they traveled with two other groups. Some activities she participated in while in Costa Rica were, they zip-lined, did a night hike, took a boat ride to their hotel and a canal tour, they looked for jaguars, had a surprise birthday party, played soccer with some locals, shopped, visited the hot springs, cooked with a local family, swam in the ocean and the pool, and jumped off a platform! When asked if she would go back and why she said, “ Again and again! The people in Costa Rica are so kind, the wildlife is amazing, and I love the weather there. It is a beautiful place.”
In conclusion, Lewis Cass staff and students went to fun destinations over the summer. These include Ohio, Michigan, Costa Rica, state parks in Indiana, Seattle Washington, and Florida. All of these places seem to be great places to travel. The real question is, where did you travel over the summer? What did you do?
