Congratulations, we have officially survived three whole weeks (almost a month) of school, and are entering our fourth week. We have several new staff members this school year and welcome Miss DePoy, Mrs. Guy, and Miss Wengerd into the King’s community. Whether they are in their first year of teaching or their twentieth, we are so fortunate that they chose Lewis Cass as their new home!
First, Miss DePoy graduated from Purdue University this past May and is in her first year of teaching. She was looking to teach math somewhere close to home and Lewis Cass was a perfect fit for her. Miss DePoy said, “I had just graduated from Purdue University and was looking for a math position close to my home. Lewis Cass was somewhat close while also having an opening in the grade level I was interested in. I had also heard great things about this school corporation and staff.” DePoy teaches Pre-Calculus, Calculus, and SAT Prep. She completed her student teaching at Harrison High School in West Lafayette. When asked how the school year is going so far, DePoy said, “I am really liking it so far. All of the staff are very supportive and kind. The students are hard workers, and I really enjoy coming to my job every day to work with them.”
Miss Wengerd is also a first-year teacher. She moved here all the way from Oregon! “This is my first time teaching. I got my degrees out in Oregon at the University of Oregon. That’s where I did student teaching at Willamette High School teaching juniors.” When asked what drew her to Lewis Cass she said, “I decided on Lewis Cass because I grew up in a small town school and wanted my son to also have that close-knit community feel in school.” It is safe to say she is enjoying her time here so far. When asked if she liked it here, Miss Wengerd replied, “I love it! Everyone has been so helpful and the students have made it really fun. They get so involved in the school that it makes it easy to teach.” Wengerd teaches ICP and earth science.
Our new choir director, Mrs. Guy, graduated from Indiana Wesleyan University and has been teaching for twelve years. When asked how her year was going so far, she replied, “I’m loving it! The choirs have all been so receptive to me, and the staff has been incredibly welcoming. Feels good to be back!.” Mrs. Guy taught previously at Lewis Cass before as the elementary music teacher. When asked what brought her back to Cass, she replied, “I wanted to come back to Cass because this is home for me and my family. My husband and I both graduated from Cass and our kids attend here.” Before teaching at Cass, she taught at Westfield and Tri-Central.
We are excited to welcome these wonderful new additions to our staff and are looking forward to another great year. If you see Miss DePoy, Miss Wengerd, or Mrs. Guy in the hallway, make sure you welcome them to Lewis Cass!
