Students at Lewis Cass are looking to make a difference in their school. The Lewis Cass SADD club is just one of many clubs the school has to make a difference in the students. A Nationwide club is the SADD club. The acronym SADD stands for Students Against Destructive Decisions. The Lewis Cass SADD club meets to find ways to make a positive impact on the school.
The sponsor for the Lewis Cass SADD club is senior English teacher, Mrs. Davis. Mrs. Davis was asked a few questions about this upcoming year for what the SADD club has in store. The first question Mrs. Davis was asked was how an active SADD club affects the school in a positive way. Mrs. Davis replied and said it can affect the school in a positive way by giving students better morals, healthy alternatives for entertainment, and educating students on how dangerous certain choices can be to themselves. Some of these choices could include vaping, drinking, texting while driving, and more that could impact a students’ life in a negative way.
Another question Mrs. Davis was asked was what amount of planning goes into being a part of the SADD club. Mrs. Davis explains SADD events are exciting and well-planned. An example of this is Red Ribbon Week. Red Ribbon Week requires a lot of planning from members to plan dress-up days, activities, and more. The club also coordinates the winter formal dance which requires hours of planning. The club spends lots of time finding a venue, organizing and putting together decorations, selling tickets, and advertising for the dance. Mrs. Davis also says she is grateful to have such amazing and strong student leadership to help share the load of decision-making.
The last question Mrs. Davis was asked was what are you looking forward to as the new sponsor of the SADD club this year. Mrs. Davis replies saying the thing she most looks forward to is working with the students who want to serve their school community. She also says she is very excited the officers have such great enthusiasm and can not wait to find out what they can accomplish this year.
This year’s SADD club president is Eliana Cicalo. Eliana was asked a few questions about the club including what can the SADD club do to have a positive impact on Lewis Cass. Eliana responded by saying with help from the club’s sponsor, Mrs. Davis, she hopes to set in place new initiatives that promote better decisions for students in the future. Eliana also says the club has already started discussing lots of ideas for the school that will make a positive impact on the school and students. She says the club is focusing on spreading the belief of supporting and educating the students of our school to make better decisions for themselves as well as the students around them.
Another question Eliana was asked is what are some activities that the SADD club does or plans during the year. Eliana explains that the main activities the club plans each year are Red Ribbon Week and the school Winter Formal. She also says that although these are the biggest events all year, the club also wants to promote better decision-making and have activities that create a difference in the students of our school.
The last question Eliana was asked was what ideas have the SADD club come up with for RED Ribbon Week. Eliana tells us that the club will plan the popular dress-up days for Red Ribbon Week. These dress-up days include many different fun ideas for students to express who they are in costume, while also promoting the drug-free initiative of Red Ribbon Week. She also says the club will be helping out with activities in the elementary as they will help teach the elementary school kids about what the SADD club is, does, and what it means to be in the club in high school.
This year the SADD club plans to be very involved with the students of our school. The club is looking to make a huge difference in the students’ choices. The club strives to make a positive impact on the students of the school from early elementary throughout high school. Although this takes a lot of time and planning, the students and officers of the club enjoy the opportunity to make a difference in their school.
