The Lady Kings’ golf team has a couple of busy weeks ahead. Throughout the season, the Lady Kings have been practicing, playing matches, learning new skills, overcoming challenges, and bonding as a team. As time went on, the team prepared for the upcoming tournaments. On Saturday, September 14, 2024, the Lady Kings will compete in the Tri-Rivers Conference, at Rock Hollow Golf Club, and sectional on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at Chippendale Golf Course. As the ladies spend the week preparing for the competition, the team will overcome more challenges, and defeat the nerves as much as possible.
For those who do not know, conference and sectional are 18-hole matches, while normal matches are only nine holes. Being sure not to let the nerves get the best of them will be a crucial part in the Lady Kings golf team’s success. With many of the girls on the Lewis Cass Girls golf team being new to the team, they have never played 18 holes before. Senior, Heidi Frey, was asked how she is feeling about conference and sectional as a golfer who has never played 18 holes before. Frey says, “ I’m feeling a little bit nervous, but also excited. I enjoy golf a lot and I’m excited for the experience.” Having a love for a sport is crucial to being able to perform well and dedicate yourself. Nervousness is to be expected in any sport that you participate in. When asked what Frey is most nervous about for the upcoming weeks, she mentioned, “I’m most nervous about my score and making sure I’m doing well. Since the conference is so long I want to make sure I’m taking my time at every hole and not rushing.” Patience is key in playing 18 holes. If you rush yourself, you will not perform to the best of your ability, especially in a sport that takes so much physical and mental patience and practice. Frey was asked what she believes her biggest challenge will be. She answered, “I think my biggest challenge will be putting in and making sure to take my time and make every stroke count.” When it comes to scoring in golf, you must make every store count because it will affect your score drastically, even if it is just an extra putt.
With a short season, sectionals and conference came sooner than expected. The Lady Kings have been preparing little by little. Playing holes at practice, having best-ball scrambles, and spending time at the range have been their techniques of preparation. Hard work is necessary to succeed and the Lady Kings have been working hard. With the scores getting lower, and the Lady Kings staying dedicated, the team will be prepared for the next few weeks of golf. The team hopes to make it out of the sectional and get some All-TRC conference golfers. The Lady Kings will remain optimistic throughout the remainder of the season. It all comes down to this! Best of luck to the Lady Kings Golf team on Saturday!
