It is that time of year again. Every four years, our citizens elect a new President to run our country. The two main parties the people can choose from are the Republican and Democratic parties, but there is always a third and fourth party if they do not like the candidates for the two main parties. The candidates for each party this year were former President Donald Trump for the Republican, Kamala Harris for the Democratic, Jill Stein for the Green, and Chase Oliver for the Libertarian.
This past election, the votes were close and kept everyone on edge all night. With Republican representative, former President Donald Trump being filed for impeachment twice but the charges ended up getting dropped and attempted to be assassinated at a Philadelphia rally, it was a tough election for Trump. As Election Day arrived Donald Trump spent his final day wrapping up votes in Grand Rapids, MI, while Kamala Harris spent her final day wrapping up in Philadelphia, PA. According to The USA Today’s, Joey Garrison, more than 80 million American citizens voted early this year, though roughly the same number waited until the day of the election to cast their votes. The last seven states were to determine who would win the extremely close election that came down to the final five states. The states that had nearly everyone waiting were Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Nevada, and Minnesota.
According to Garrison, he did not think there would be enough votes on election night to determine who would be the next President. The 2024 election was seen as a “boys versus girls” contest with Trump leading among male voters and Harris leading among female voters. According to the Suffolk University poll taken, from October 14 to 18 found Harris was leading nationally 53% – 36% with the most female voters. The same situation for Trump but vice versa 53% – 36% with the most male voters. Kamala Harris also had the majority of the black votes with 72% to 17% and according to the national survey from Florida International University Kamla also had the majority of Latino votes as well with 57% to 33% lead on competitor Donald Trump. As the election went on, states made dramatic changes which caused our 47th President to be President-Elect Donald Trump.
Once the announcement was made that Trump was our winner, Former Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Biden called Trump to congratulate him on the victory. Former President Biden even offered Trump to come over to the white house to have lunch with him. Trump’s victory has not only affected United States citizens, but it is affecting citizens all over the world. According to The Week magazine Palestinian citizen Naim said, “ The election of Trump as the 47th president of the USA is a private matter for the Americans… but Palestinians look forward to an immediate cessation of the aggression against our people, especially in Gaza, and look for assistance in achieving their legitimate rights of freedom, independence, and the establishment of their independent self-sovereign state with Jerusalem as its capital.” There have also been rumors that Hamas has called off war but according to The Week Magazine, Hamas has not surrendered.
President Trump is the second president to serve two non-consecutive terms (not back to back). President-Elect Donald Trump will take office on January 20, 2025.
