It is the day, halfway through February when everyone forgets about their diet and eats every heart-shaped chocolate they see. They wake up to a loved one who made them breakfast in bed or was surprised with a bouquet of roses. Despite all the different forms of celebration, Valentine’s Day is a national holiday celebrated around the world. There are so many fun ways to spend Valentine’s Day. Whether it is spent with a partner or a group of friends, there is an option for everyone.
For people wanting to celebrate Valentine’s Day who are still in school, there are an abundance of fun activities to do that are not all so fancy and adult-oriented. According to CountryLiving.com, one of the top activities to do is a progressive dinner. This has been all over social media for a while now, but the idea is that the couple is to pick a new restaurant for each course of the meal. The first choice is drinks, then appetizers, to main course, and lastly dessert. Most people tend to get takeout and drive-through food because of the convenience, but the choice of the different places to go could also be turned into a fun game as well. Some couples play rock-paper-scissors to see who gets to pick the place each round, or some even download an app that randomly chooses the person for them. This activity could be for a couple that has been together for a while or it could even be for a first date. Either way, this activity is a fun and inclusive game that is great for getting to know each other and great bonding time.
Everyone knows someone who will have a Galentines party once a year. There is no doubt that a group of girls always get together for a special fun night on Valentine’s Day, but the real question is, do men? I guess we will never know. If the men are interested, this activity includes them, as well as the women. A group of friends could celebrate Valentine’s Day by throwing a themed party or get-together. Have someone host the party, set up festive pink and red decorations, and make creative drinks for everyone. As the host, have each friend of the group bring a Valentine-themed food item. It can be anything from heart-shaped fruits and chocolate to dip, or bring ingredients to make personal heart-shaped pizzas. As a group, dress according to the theme and plan a small photoshoot at the party. And finally, end the night with a cheesy romance movie to complete the experience.
Finding local activities is always a fun way to spend holidays, and luckily there are local finds to excel someone’s Valentine’s Day. In Kokomo, Indiana on the fifteenth of February, Fine Arts Studio is hosting a Valentine’s experience for couples. This activity includes working with clay, making a bowl and candle holder by hand, glazing the projects, and lastly getting the items fired to perfection to be picked up later. The couple will be working on the wheel with instructor Jeremy South and will learn how to make their very own creations.
Valentine’s Day can be filled with fun, whether it is spending time with a loved one, a group of friends, or family, or even spending time by yourself. It is okay to show yourself love on Valentine’s Day. Treat yourself to your favorite meal, and binge-watch your favorite movie series while eating chocolate. However someone may choose to spend their Valentine’s Day, I am wishing for the most memorable time and hoping they receive everything they deserve.
