With their annual showcase on the way, King’s Collective is working diligently to perfect every note and make sure their performance is flawless for Saturday, April 12, 2025. Collective Showcase is not a regular concert, it is exclusive to the King’s Collective choir only. This concert is a night where the choir members showcase their talents and host a private concert for family and friends. Spring break is approaching fast, which means the choir will be missing out on a lot of valuable rehearsal time, so rehearsals are in full swing in order for them to be ready in time.
All of the planning for this concert is done mostly by the students with only a bit of help from Mrs. Guy. The students choose the songs, the theme, and even pick the solo features. Usually, the director’s assistants do most of the work and get input from other students when needed. This year, however, everyone had a say in choosing the songs and theme. This is a bittersweet final showcase for our five seniors, Heidi Frey, Jenifer Romero, Nataly Lopez, Kurtis Goodwin, and William Rose. Will compares this showcase to the ones he has been involved with in the past, “I think this year’s showcase has been much more student-driven and has had mainly student input.” After high school, William is planning to attend Indiana University, Kokomo to obtain his Bachelor’s Degree in nursing.
Many people love showcase because it is more of an intimate concert experience. With fewer songs, fewer people, and more love, it feels much more personal than a regular concert experience. While the seniors are preparing for their final showcase, the freshmen are gearing up for their first-ever showcase. Freshman, Madelyn Hillis says, “I am expecting a very emotional and heartfelt concert, and I am looking forward to having just close family and friends in the crowd.” Having close friends and family in the crowd is a plus, but that could also make the whole experience more nerve-wracking.
The preparations for Collective Showcase take a different approach than a regular concert. Choir director, Abby Guy shares the difference, “I like the unique approach that we get to use for Collective Showcase. We have more time in the evening to allow members to share their individual talents with family and friends.” Mrs. Guy shared what she is most looking forward to for this showcase. “I’m really looking forward to ‘Girls Gone Abba.’ I can’t wait to see what our Collective ladies do with this piece.” Will Rose is most excited to sing “When I Grow Up” from Matilda. “This song has a very nice message and good harmonies, and I have enjoyed the musical Matilda in the past.”
Working against the tight timeline, King’s Collective is kicking it into gear in the days leading up to spring break and the week after. As the days count down to April 12, the members of the choir are putting their all into every rehearsal making sure that their showcase is memorable as well as meaningful. For the freshman, it is the first experience with the tradition, but for the seniors, it is their bittersweet farewell. Whether it is the close-knit audience or the carefully chosen songs, this year’s Collective Showcase promises to be an evening filled with music, memories, love, and celebration.
