When the calendar turns to May, the sun is shining, there is a cool breeze, and there is one more thing around the corner. What may that be? Summer! Many schools let out for summer break in May. This is a very exciting and busy time for students, as they are trying to push through the last of the school year. Since it is going to be the start of summer, three Lewis Cass students were asked about their summer plans and what that might entail.
First, Mia Hall, a sophomore, was asked what her immediate plans were for the summer. Mia replied that her immediate plans are to start training for sports, laying out by the pool, and working. Hall does have one vacation planned over the summer, and she replied, “ I am planning one vacation to New York for my sixteenth birthday! We are going in July for about five days!”
Abbi Bandlier, also a sophomore, said she has a vacation to Virginia in June and a trip to Myrtle Beach in July. For summer, Bandlier is most excited about getting her license!
Mrs.Barker, Geometry teacher at Lewis Cass, shared her summer plans and goals over the summer. Mrs.Barker plans to take her camper to Jekyll Island in Georgia. Her family is going camping there for a couple of weeks in June because her family likes nature and is looking forward to a “slower pace for our vacation this summer.” They will be participating in lots of hiking, bike-riding, and sitting around the fire. Mrs. Barker is most excited for her daughter, Gwendolyn, who is turning 16 this summer, and can learn how to drive. They have been working on fixing a 74 Volkswagen Beetle for a long time, and they are so excited to get Gwen behind the wheel. Mrs.Barker’s biggest goal this summer is to teach herself how to play violin double-stop chords. Mrs.Barker said, “I love playing music and would really like to contribute occasionally to the worship team at church. So, I want to teach myself the violin. I need to replace one of the strings on it first, though.”
Lastly, sophomore Olivia Parker shared some of her summer plans. Olivia is most excited about her family having a new boat and getting to go out on it after a long day at work. She is also excited to hang out with all of her friends because all of them will have their licenses. Parker is working at the Gathering Grounds as a barista. She plans to work around six days a week. Two things Olivia would like to try this summer are tubing and water skiing.
In the end, many Lewis Cass students and staff have exciting events planned for summer. Whether it is traveling to New York or Virginia, taking bike rides, or teaching your daughter how to drive, this summer is going to be full of many exciting plans!
