As our senior year winds down, we seniors begin to reminisce on our lifelong memories throughout our school career. When we were in elementary school, we always thought school would take forever for us to graduate. However, now that we are on the last lap of our high school careers, we are beginning to think that school flew by too fast. This chapter of our lives is now coming to a bittersweet ending, and a new chapter of our lives is opening up: college and careers. But for now, let us reflect on our high school memories.
While many students say their senior year is not their favorite, due to stress and it being their last year in high school, my senior year has been my favorite year (aside from basketball). Many of my favorite memories include those of when I was with my friends or at sporting events, such as “Friday Night Lights” and being in the paint crew, emceeing for the variety show, prom, playing baseball, or just spending time with my classmates. To me, nothing is better than losing your voice every Friday night from cheering on the football team. Along with that, my friends and I would go golfing the next day on most Saturdays, which would make the ideal weekend for me.
Although there were many moments to make favorite high school memories, senior, Brody Williams has a favorite high school memory that sticks out to him the most (from both on and off the field). His favorite sports memory comes from his sophomore year of baseball: “My favorite memory from baseball was holding a state-caliber Western team to just 0-2 as a sophomore, even though we lost.” His favorite off-the-field memory springs from a sport, but is not directly related to it. “My favorite memory off the field would be when I took the team camping at one of the farms we own, where we fished and camped out in a tent by the fire,” Brody said. In my personal opinion, my favorite sports memory would have to be a combination of all my football games and basketball games (as a paint crew member), along with playing baseball games. Although baseball is such a short season, it is still the best season to be part of. The feeling of school being out soon and summer break, along with the nicer weather after winter, tallies up to make baseball by far the best season for me.
When it comes to events non-sports-related, being an emcee for the variety show was a great experience this fall, and it was an overall great night to watch classmates perform their acts. Along with being an emcee, I was able to perform in some skits and the senior superlatives. In the skit where students mimicked teachers, I performed what many believe is a perfect Mr. Hull impersonation. The week of the variety show was Homecoming Week, which also brings the crowning of the Homecoming King. Nolan Hines won the Homecoming King honors, and then several months later, won Prom King too! So, all in all, you could say Nolan Hines is “The King” of the school. Let us not forget that this year’s prom was on a boat (The Madam Carroll). From prior prom experiences, prom had never been on a boat for my class, but this was the best prom I have attended yet. Having prom on a boat was far superior to having prom at a normal local venue. This year’s prom was THE prom to be at.
Ultimately, through all the stress, struggles, and responsibilities, senior year was the best year for me. College and future career decisions were two of the greatest stress-inducing aspects of the year, but the positives of this year overruled the stress and resulted in a great school year for me. In the end, my advice to underclassmen is this…Don’t let stress ruin your senior year- It’s a great one!
