My Oxford Year is the most recent romantic comedy movie to have been released on Netflix. This romantic comedy movie was released on August 1, 2025, and the rating for the new movie is PG-13. This film is based on a famous romantic novel by Julia Whelan.
The main cast of My Oxford Year includes Sofia Carson and Corey Mylchreest. Sofia Carson stars as Anna de La Vega. Anna de La Vega is an ambitious Type A-girl, young, and an American woman. Anna de La Vega is also a character who has her whole life planned out perfectly. In the film, Anna de La Vega moves to England for a year to attend Oxford University to fulfill her childhood dream of poetry.
Anna de La Vega then meets a charming and clever guy named Jamie Davenport, who is portrayed by Corey Mylchreest. At the beginning of the movie, Jamie does not have the following characteristics of charming and clever. However, as you watch and get to know his personality and understand him, you will see how he fits those characteristics. In My Oxford Year, one of the qualities Jamie demonstrates is being an amazing poet. Since Jamie is such a wonderful poet, he actually ends up becoming Anna’s poetry professor. When Anna had walked in on the first day, Jamie was not who she was expecting to see as the professor. Throughout this movie, you will see Jamie Davenport tend to change Anna’s perspective of life forever.
At first, the realities of their two lives prevented them from making their relationship serious. This is because Anna and Jamie were two very different people who had different outlooks on life. Throughout the movie, the two main characters, Anna and Jamie, had started to bond over their love for poetry. They soon began a fast-paced and short-lived romantic relationship. However, Jamie ended up keeping a huge secret from Anna throughout the majority of the movie, which Anna later discovers.
The overall message of this movie is to be present and live in the moment because you never know how long you are going to have to experience life. For example, they used a piece of cake as a symbol to demonstrate this idea. One of the main lessons Jamie teaches Anna is that the messiness of life is the most beautiful part of it. Anna was used to planning out every little detail of what is going to happen in her life, but was so caught up in that mindset that she was forgetting to live in the moment. As you watch the movie, you will understand more of this message being conveyed.
Overall, if you are looking for something different to watch and you enjoy romantic comedies, then My Oxford Year is the movie to watch. I personally feel this movie conveyed a strong message to the viewers, and definitely gave me a different outlook on life. I have also heard many different reviews of this movie. I personally agree with some of the reviews, but not all of them. However, you should definitely still go and watch My Oxford Year, especially if you enjoy a good heartfelt story!
