Belly has spent her summers at Cousins Beach for as long as she can remember. Belly, her mother, Laurel, and her brother, Steven, head up the East Coast to meet Laurel’s best friend, Susannah. Susannah has two sons, Conrad and Jeremiah Fisher. Every summer, Belly, Steven, Conrad, and Jeremiah would spend their days surfing, dancing, and playing every chance they got. Now that Belly’s older and she is back at Cousins for another summer, she has noticed the boys have been acting differently toward her. Belly has had a crush on Conrad since she was twelve, but never imagined he could have feelings for her as well. On the other hand, Belly started noticing Jeremiah as more than just Conrad’s brother. Jeremiah has always been a kind, genuine, and funny person whom Belly admires. Belly is struck with an impossible decision, choosing between two brothers. Since season one, many new revelations have been uncovered and twists in each episode. This brings us to season three, the final season.
The third and final season is being filmed. With six episodes already released this season, fans are on the edge of their seats waiting for each episode. Every Wednesday, until September 17, a new episode will be released. Belly is played by actress Lola Tung, whose breakout role came with The Summer I turned Pretty. The novel The Summer I Turned Pretty may be just as popular as the TV adaptation, but how similar is the storyline? According to Lewis Cass, sophomore, Delaney McLaughlin, the overall storyline is the same, with just a few scenes deviating from the original book. She also mentioned the addition of new characters in the TV series. Characters such as Shayla, Skye, and Aunt Julia were never mentioned in the novels, but became recurring figures in the show. When asked if Delaney preferred the show or books more, she responded, “I like the books better because sometimes the show can get a bit confusing and just have too much information, while the book is simpler and easier to comprehend.” While we wait for the third season to take shape, opinions on the show and books continue to spark conversation. As the last season unfolds, the anticipation builds around Belly’s decision between the two brothers.
