Instead of spending my Saturday afternoon sleeping, going out with friends, or staying home watching movies, I decided to step out of my comfort zone and try something new. So, I went to the Casket Cruise-in, a funeral car show in Greentown, Indiana!
When I first arrived in Greentown, I saw a swarm of vehicles and slowly realized those vehicles were there for the little league soccer match that was happening near the event and not actually there for the show. This type of car show was definitely not something I was really interested in, but it was definitely a new experience for me. I personally did not enjoy the overall experience because there were not many cars.
I was expecting the food to be at least tasty. When I went up to one of the food stands, I saw this giant guy selling some brisket nachos. I was definitely shocked! He was the tallest guy I had ever seen. When I purchased the nachos, they were again…. definitely not my favorite. I pretended to like them, though, because the guy looked like he could definitely pick me up… scary! I would probably end up leaving inside one of those funeral cars if I let him know that I did not enjoy his nachos. There were not many visitors at the car show. I personally would recommend going unless you are into funeral cars and caskets.
There were not many things that I truly enjoyed at this car show, but there were some things I did. I would say one of those was the vintage cars, which looked amazing. The owners were friendly, and everyone was respectful around the cars. At the end of the day, there was a vote for which car you liked most. There were trophies for the top three voted best funeral car.
The car decorations at the show were very interesting. I was certainly not expecting there to be actual caskets inside most of the vehicles. Inside those caskets were skeletons, and some of the kids thought the skeletons were real and started crying. Some of the owners of the cars were
even dressed for the part. There was one guy who was dressed like the Undertaker, which matched the theme of the vehicle of his car.
Sophomore Damain Franco went along with me to the “exciting” car show in Greentown. When asked if he enjoyed his visit to the car show, Franco stated, “I didn’t care for the car show personally; it was very boring.” I would have to agree with him (Madrigal) on this one: the car show was not really appealing. Damain had this to say when asked what his favorite part of the show was: “My favorite part was leaving.” If Franco had the chance to go again, would he? Damian replied, “I would not because it isn’t the type of car show I personally like.” What was the funniest or most interesting part of the show? Franco replied, “ The funniest thing was probably that there was a guy recording for YouTube.” There was a guy running around recording for his YouTube channel all day!
To conclude our trip, I would say the car show was really not on my top ten things to do on a Saturday. The cars were mediocre, and the mood of the car show was weird. Overall., I would give the Casket Cruise-in a 5/10. Hopefully, over Labor Day, I can find something more exciting to do with my spare time!!
