Imagine working hard throughout the entire game, striving to win, but the referees are calling one bad call after another. The opposing team is performing the same defense, but the referees are not calling anything. Finally, narrowed down to seconds left in the game, down two points, and the only choice to score is a field goal. The kick is up…. And miss! Wait! A flag on the play for a defensive foul on the other team and another kick attempt. This time, the kick is good and the team wins by one point!
If that scenario sounds familiar, it should if fans watched the Indianapolis Colts versus Denver Broncos game this past Sunday. As reported by the Associated Press, the Colts accomplished another milestone by having the first 2-0 start of the season since 2009. The press stated “The Denver Broncos were chasing a victory this past season for Coach Sean Peyton’s 172 wins, to tie Bill Parcells.”
According to the Associated Press, in week one, the Colts had a match-up against the Miami Dolphins at Lucas Oil Stadium. The Colts topped the Dolphins with a 33 to 8 victory. This victory was the first season opener win in eleven years. Colts quarterback, Daniel Jones, went 22 of 29 for 272 yards, with a career high of 197 yards in the first half, and a touchdown. Jones also had two rushing touchdowns of his own. In the week two match-up, the Colts played the Denver Broncos. The Colts took a victory over the Broncos in a nail-biting game, taking the victory by just one point, from a last-second field goal by Spencer Shrader. Ending the game with the score of 29 to 28.
According to the analytics on ESPN’s website, team leaders are quarterback Daniel Jones, running back Johnathan Tayler, tight end Tyler Warren, linebacker Joe Bachie, and safety Cam Bynum. Jones is leading the Colts this season in passing yards with a total of 588 yards so far. Taylor is leading the Colts in rushing yards with a total of 236 yards. Warren leads the Colts in receiving yards with 155 yards. Bachie leads the Colts in tackles with a total of 13 tackles. Lastly, Bynum leads the Colts in interceptions with two. The Colts’ next match-up is against the 0-2 Tennessee Titans on the Titans’ home field at Nissan Stadium. The pregame stats favor the Colts, but the Titans do have a home-field advantage. The Titans could have the potential to upset the Colts if the rookie quarterback has a strong game. But if Johnathan Tayler keeps up how he has been playing then the Titans’ defense will struggle to stop him.
Overall, the Colts are off to a great start this season! If they continue to progress and continue to win games, the Colts have the potential to have a historical season. The Colts the Titans this Sunday, and the kick off is one o’clock. Wear white on Sunday to support the Colts for the theme is white out.
