Have you ever been bored on a Saturday? Nothing to do in Logansport, IN? Well, I have been to several museums…. SNORE, but I found one in Logansport last weekend that was amazing. The Fiberglass Batman Museum was definitely a highlight of my week.
Out of all the museums I have been to, this one has to be one of my favorites. Everything about the Batman Museum was extremely detailed. Even the bathrooms in the Museum were Batman-themed. When entering the museum, there is a gift shop where visitors purchase their tickets. The tour guide escorted me to the first room, which was amazing. The room was based on Commissioner Gordon’s office from the Original Batman television show, where Gordon would call Batman in case of danger. The room even had the exact red phone from the show. My personal favorite part was a secret door behind a bookshelf with two poles heading down to the secret Batcave. The tour then led me to a Batman Theater, where experts explained the history of the fiberglass cars they created for the museum.
As we continued the tour, we saw an aisle full of life-like statues of every single villain Batman and Robin have ever faced. We thought the tour was over since we did not see anything else for the guides to show us. That was when the guide took us down a staircase to the Batcave! Not only was the Batcave exceptionally detailed, but it also had some of the fiberglass cars that Mark Racop reproduced. These cars were not normal replicas; they had every single working feature, including the flamethrower, exactly like in the show. Our tour guide was none other than the actual owner of the museum, Mark Racop, who helped make the fiberglass cars. One of these cars he created when he was only 17 years old!
Obviously, I could not go alone on this spectacular mission without my Robin. Which is why I took my friend and confidant, fellow freshman, Owen Lee. When asked what his favorite part of the museum was, he replied, “I really enjoyed the fiberglass cars and how detailed every single button was functional and did something.” When Lee was asked how he felt about the tour, Owen said, “The tour was fantastic. I really enjoyed how in-depth the tour guide went when telling us about the history of Batman.” Did the museum exceed Owens’ expectations? Lee replied, “The museum definitely exceeded my expectations. Everything about the museum was amazing, and I liked learning about the cars and the history of Batman.”
With such a large amount of Batman memorabilia, one must think this museum took years to make. If so, then you are right, it took Mark Racop four years to be able to put this amazing museum together, which opened on October 31, 2024. Most of the museum items Racop built himself, and others that were actually collected from the movies and shows.
In conclusion, if you are bored on a Saturday afternoon. Grab a friend and visit the Batman Museum in Logansport, IN, from noon to 6 pm Tuesday-Saturday for a fun and exciting experience. We would surely go again.
