From Friday night lights to basketball late nights, there is one place all spectators visit: the concession stand. The Lewis Cass Concessions have always served the classic: candy, drinks, and popcorn. Even the famous Spanish meat-topped nachos and hot dogs have been staples for many years. But this year, the menu was given a major upgrade. Cass brought in reinforcements, and it is leaving everyone talking. With all new menu items and full-on meals being served, the concessions have become a hot topic around Lewis Cass.
The concession stands at Lewis Cass have always been a popular destination. People looked forward to nachos with homemade Spanish sauce and those beloved soft pretzels with a concerning, cholesterol-raising amount of salt. People could always count on seeing the friendly faces of Cass’ parents when they visited the stands. The parents of the Cass Cheerleaders ran the concessions for decades until recently. Two years ago, the cheer parents decided they were ready to take a step back and pass the crown down to a different party. The Cass Athletic Boosters took the reins and kept the traditions alive. The concessions remained serving the typical foods: hot dogs, nachos, popcorn, pretzels, and prepackaged foods. Everything stayed the same until this summer, when they went through a major shift.
Just like the Cheer parents, the Athletic Boosters also decided to pass down the duty to a new figure to step into the role. Here enters 2 Sisters Vending. 2 Sisters Vending is the company that stepped up to take on the Cass concessions, and they have not fallen anywhere near short of fantastic. The youth football leagues got the first bite of the new concessions this summer. I had the opportunity to speak with one of the Co-owners of the company, Kellie Weaver, and they said that the youth football games were a huge success. So much so that Athletic Director Coach Marschand asked if they would be interested in catering for all Cass’s sporting events. So as the summer was ending, the company was only getting started.
Now, at the concessions, consumers can expect to see the two sisters and their employees at every Friday Night Light or volleyball match. They sure have caused an uproar, too, because at almost every event I attend, lines for the concessions seem miles long, and I always see consumers with smiles on their faces. One of the things that makes this change so drastic is the added amount of new menu items. From chicken tacos to cinnamon rolls, these new changes have become a hit. Sports fans are now raving about the fact that they can finally get “real food,” not ballpark snacks, at sporting events. Now I am not saying that Spanish dogs do not cut it, but it is nice to have more variety and nourishing items. When I asked what fans could expect a typical menu to look like, I was quite pleased at their response. The classics like popcorn and pretzels will remain, but there will also be an addition of seasonal and rotating items. Co-owner Kellie Weaver said that their chicken tacos have taken a liking and they plan on adding seasonal dishes like soups for the colder months of fall and winter. Another addition to the menu that fans are loving is the sweet treats. They are now selling ice cream sundaes, homemade pastries, and root beer floats. It feels good knowing that customers can now purchase a sustainable meal and cure that sweet tooth all in one place.
With the fall sports seasons on the downhill of things, many are left wondering if they will be able to enjoy these new delectable treats for much longer. Do not worry, though, because customers can count on 2 Sisters Vending to be around for a while. Due to the positive response from their current work, the sisters are thrilled to announce that they will continue catering the Cass Concessions. When asked how long they plan on catering, Weaver replied, “For as long as you’ll have us!” Now visitors can enjoy their tasty concoctions all year round!
The sports fans at Cass are not the only ones benefiting from this deal either. In fact, several parents and fans have reached out to 2 Sisters Vending. Weaver said they have given away several business cards at Cass events now and have spoken with potential clients. All in all, this seems like a win-win situation for everyone. I am proud to know that our school and community can support a local business and provide a place for their advertisement. I am sure that 2 Sisters Vending will be proudly serving at Cass events for years to come. As a player and a fan, I think that the new change at Cass is astounding, and I can not wait to see how much they will succeed.
