This year, the Lewis Cass JV football team had a season full of learning, effort, and improvement. From the first game to the last, the players showed that they were willing to work hard and push themselves. Even though they did not win every game, they kept trying and never gave up. The first game against Pioneer High School was a tough one, but it helped the team see what they needed to work on. It was clear that the season would be about more than just winning; it would be about growing as a team.
One of the most valuable lessons I saw was how important teamwork is in football. Every player has a role, and when guys all do their part, the team succeeds more. Better, especially when everyone completes their blocks and routes. The defense stood out this season. The guys had to stay strong and focused to stop the other team from scoring. Being a member of the football team also means learning how to deal with challenges.
For freshmen, it can be hard to adjust to high school sports. There are new rules, harder practices, and more pressure. But once players start to understand their positions and trust their teammates, things get better. Confidence is a big part of football. The more confident you are, the faster and smarter you play. The coaches helped greatly by encouraging the team and making sure everyone knew what to do.
Coach McDonald is one of the coaches who helps out with JV. JV was asked what was his favorite memory from the JV team this season. He replied, “Beating Maconaquah and seeing the team work together.” Many of the JV players feel ready to play varsity. Who is next up for varsity? Coach McDonald replied, “There will be lots of opportunities for this JV offensive line.” When asked what he is most excited about next year, McDonald stated, “Our young guys have good attitudes and great work ethics.”
In the end, the Lewis Cass JV football team had a season to be proud of. They did not just play football; they learned how to work together, face challenges, and grow as athletes. With more practice and experience, they will be even stronger next year. Football teaches about effort, teamwork, and never giving up. The JV Kings showed all of that this season, and we are excited to see what they will do in the future.
