Everything started on Saturday, September 14, 2013, at one fifty- five pm. My brother, mom, dad, and I had been at the high school playing tennis. We had all played well and the day was going great. We were getting hungry since we played hard so we went to the Dog Shed to grab a bite for lunch. Since my parents own the Dog Shed, we go there pretty much every day to check in and make sure everything is going smoothly.

We then ordered and sat down at the same table where we always sit by the front counter. After about two minutes two women came in, ordered their food, and sat down in the corner booth. There was nothing out of the ordinary about the women. About five minutes later, we received our food and had just started eating when one of our waitresses was taking the women’s food out to them in the corner booth. The waitress delivered the food and had walked to the middle of the restaurant and BOOM! All of a sudden there was this outrageously loud noise, and we heard some screaming. We all jumped up and looked over at the corner booth where the noise came from. When we looked up, there was a big crack up the side of the wall and there was a lady struggling to get out of the booth. My mom ran over to the lady and my dad went outside where he saw a car had run into the side of the building.

The next thing I know, the lady in the booth was on the ground and the car had been shut off. Our manager, Katy Kincaid, had come out to the lobby where I was sitting. My mom then yelled for Katy to call 911. Even though it was the first time Katy had ever called 911, she called and was calm and told them what was going on. Ten minutes later, two ambulances and three police officers were in the parking lot. The paramedics came in with a stretcher and put the lady on it. They then checked her out and thought she just had a mild concussion. The injury wasn’t caused by the impact. She had fallen by trying to get out of the booth and hit her head. Then the paramedics quickly took the lady to the hospital and treated her.

As all of the things inside were going on, my dad stayed with the driver of the car outside with the police answering questions and getting a hold of the insurance agencies. Once the policemen had all the answers they needed,  they left and told us not to touch anything on the booth or around it so the investigators could get all the information they needed. My dad then went over and put caution tape all around the scene. The driver of the car and his wife then came in the Dog Shed and ordered some food. Probably the most berserk thing of the whole incident happened when the driver came in. He had two prosthetic legs and said he couldn’t feel if he was pressing the accelerator or the brake. He said they were going to Delphi from northern Indiana and had never been to Walton. We felt kind of bad for the guy because of his legs and for what had happened. Since he didn’t do it on purpose, my parents gave him and his wife a free meal. After the man and dad got everything figured out, we went home and had to call one of our family friends, who is a carpenter and does about anything you can think of. We asked him if he could fix the inside and the outside and he said yes and he would get started right away.

Finally on Tuesday, October 29, 2013, everything was taken care of and fixed. All the insurance for both us and the driver of the car were taken care of. Everything is now back to normal and looks a lot better than it did. No matter how much time it took or how bad any of the building was damaged, the most important thing was that nobody got severely hurt. Thankfully everything is back to normal and running smoothly again.
